W hether officiating a laid-back recreational youth soccer game or a high-stakes basketball championship, referees have an increasingly tough job and are getting harder to find and retain. But local public school leaders told the News this week that they are committed to making sure that referees—who are hired and assigned through the University Interscholastic League, or UIL, and the local chapter of the Texas Association of Sports Officials, or TASO—are treated fairly.
