Possible virus baby boom could interfere with Family Birth Place expansion project

The virus pandemic hasn’t slowed a hospital-related project necessitated by a baby boom experienced the past six months or so at Permian Regional Medical Center.

A $3-million Family Birth Place expansion is continuing as scheduled. PRMC CEO Donny Booth informed hospital directors during Thursday’s board meeting.

The project, now in the design phases by Trinity Hughes Construction, is set for an estimated April of 2021 completion date.

Booth said Thursday the babies keep coming at PRMC.

Not even the virus pandemic has slowed them down, he added.

Partnership encourages support of small businesses, promotes AEDC

The past couple of months have been a tough row to hoe for local retail businesses—many of which have been shut down for a time due to virus-related dictates.

Typical revenue streams that flow into those businesses haven’t been there.

And when retail suffers or lessens, a trickle effect can occur with landing industry that creates primary employment positions—a direct goal and ambition of the Andrews Economic Development Corporation.

It all goes hand in hand, city officials have said.

City to receive virus relief funds

The city council on Thursday provided formal authorization for Andrews Mayor Flora Braly to apply for federal relief funds related to the coronavirus.

Stipulations for applying included the council authorizing Braly to do so, though she had already sent an application nearly two weeks ago, according to Andrews City Manager Steve Eggleston.
