A Springtown, Texas, man was arrested the afternoon of Jan. 31 when police discovered a handgun in his vehicle while performing a welfare check. Desmend Leon Sage was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, police said. Bond was set at $10,000 for Sage, who posted bail and was released from custody the same day, according to Andrews County Jail records. Police were initially dispatched to a convenience store in the 100 block of E. Broadway around 1:30 p.m. in reference to a welfare concern of a male subject in a vehicle, police said.
