Brenda went to nursing school in the most unique manner! In Anna, Illinois there was a Homing Pigeon race and people lined up to win the prizes offered if their bird won. Apparently, Brenda put her name on the Grand Prize Winning pigeon and won a full scholarship to the local college nursing school. She received her LVN degree from Scott Community College in Davenport, Iowa and her RN degree from Carl Sanberg College in Rock Island, Illinois in 1979. After nursing school she had the opportunity to work in many areas: as a flight nurse in a helicopter, worked in one of the busiest and largest ER’s in Chicago, mental health in Houston and Midland, for the Principle Life Insurance Company, Director of Nurses in Midland, Crane, Andrews and Odessa, but geriatric turned out to be her favorite. From that experience she started her place called Lakewood Assisted Living in Houston. After she sold that business she came to Andrews to do the start up on Permian Residential Care. She worked at Avalon Place in Odessa for several years and still had many friends from there. Next, she did startup on Legends in Midland then fell in love with teaching high school students to be Certified Nurse Aides. I am sure she touched hundreds of lives in more ways than one with her knowledge and gentle nature.
