The Andrews Mustangs one loss this football season was to a Lubbock Cooper team still in the playoffs in 5A and a huge favorite to win this week to win their regional quarterfinals contest.

The Springtown Porcupines lone loss was a district setback (38-31) to an undefeated Decatur team (12-0) that is also a huge favorite to win this coming weekend.

In comparing apples to apples – which is simply adding gas to the fire – Andrews and Springtown are as close as two teams can be competitively!

Don’t try telling AHS Mustangs fans any differently!

Let’s play the ‘what if’ game!

So many great things that have never happened in the Andrews Mustangs football program will be on the line Friday when Coach Ralph Mason’s boys take on a strong Springtown Porcupines team in the 1-4A Region Quarters.

So many things!

To begin, Andrews has never had a 12-win season – one more win and it’s a done deal.

They have never won 12 games in a row!

Although there have been eight AHS teams that have played 13 games in a season, there has never being one that played 14 games.

That too is on the line!

Williamson signs golf offer with UTPB

One of the best decisions Tucker Williamson ever made was to start playing golf!

The second best was a family decision to move to Andrews when his father Jeff Williamson was named as the new head AHS golf coach.

For Williamson, a senior at AHS, things have been on the rise ever since then!

They climaxed for the time being last week when Tucker, with parents Lisa and Jeff by his side, signed a golf college scholarship to play for the UTPB Falcons next fall.

Basketball girls drop to 0-3

After two tough one-point losses, the Andrews Lady Mustangs suffered a tough 49-27 road defeat to Slaton Tuesday to fall to 0 and 3 for the season.

Mustangs beat Lake View

The Andrews Mustangs basketball team made it two for two to start out the season, beating Lake View at home Saturday 68-50.

Andrews jumped out to a 19-6 first quarter lead and by halftime were on top by a 37-15 margin and put it on cruise for the 18-point victory.

Coach Matt Walker’s boys shot the ball well, hitting 15 of 28 on twos plus were 7 of 17 on threes and a strong 17 of 22 on free throws.

Anthony’s girls fall 45-34 to DC

Four games into their season, the Andrews Lady Mustangs remain winless with and 0 and 4 record after dropping a 45-34 road contest at Denver City Saturday.

Once again Coach Quint Anthony’s team had a hard time putting the ball in the basket in three of the four quarters, scoring just 3 in the first, 9 in the third and 4 in the fourth.

Liming, girls and boys swim relays carry Waldmann’s squads to titles

The Andrews High School girls swim team used two Amelia Liming individual gold medal performances plus won two relays to win the girls’ side of the Pecos Invitational with 372 points.

Andrews completed the sweep by winning the boys’ title with 385 points as their 400 relay team of Javan Tellez, Cash Coats, Eden Emiliano and Brennan Bennett bested the field with a 3:37 time.
