Barbara Mendez

Barbara Mendez, a beacon of joy and adventure, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2024, at the age of 82 in Anna, Texas. Born on July 31, 1942, in Brownfield, Texas, Barbara’s life was a vibrant journey marked by love, laughter, and an indomitable spirit.

Barbara’s radiant smile and loving nature were her trademarks, touching the lives of all who knew her. She was the cherished daughter of the late Ernest A. Ballard and Allie Mae Ballard and was preceded in death by her dear brothers, Ernest M. Ballard and Thomas Ballard. Her zest for life was infectious, and she had the remarkable ability to light up any room with her presence.

Throughout her life, Barbara’s adventurous soul led her to embrace every moment with enthusiasm. She had an unquenchable love for Rock & Roll music, which often served as the soundtrack to her many escapades. Her brothers, who were always “raising cane,” held a special place in her heart, and the bond she shared with her cousins was filled with joy and camaraderie.

Barbara was the loving mother of her only son, Steve Mendez, of Moore, Oklahoma. Her legacy of love continues through her grandchildren, Stephanie Denton, and Kris Denton, of Garland, Texas, and her great-grandson, Kole Denton also of Garland, Texas, who will all cherish the memories of their spirited matriarch.

Those who knew Barbara were inspired by her adventurous nature and her capacity for love. She was a woman who lived her life with her heart on her sleeve, unafraid to show her affection and care for those around her. Her spirit was characterized by a deep and genuine love for her family and friends, whom she valued more than anything else.

Barbara will be deeply missed, but the memories she created will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her. Barbara’s journey through life was a beautiful dance to the rhythm of Rock & Roll, and though the music has paused, her melody will resonate for eternity.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Barbara’s life will be at 2:00PM, Saturday, August 24, 2024, at McNett Funeral Home with Pastor Leslie Boone officiating. She will be laid to rest at the Andrews County West Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to the personal care of McNett Funeral Home.
