Carl Dwayne Johnson
Carl Dwayne Johnson, known affectionately as Dwayne to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2024, in Midland, Texas. Born on February 21, 1953, in Denver City, Texas, Dwayne’s journey through life was marked by deep devotion to his family, a successful career, and a steadfast faith.
Dwayne’s life was a testament to the power of love and commitment. He married his beloved wife, Wanda Lou, on August 29, 1975, in Plains, Texas, after a blind date set up by friends blossomed into a lifelong partnership. Together, they welcomed two daughters into the world, Misty Johnson (and wife Amanda) of Odessa, Texas, and Kristy Crutcher (and husband Jason) of Andrews, Texas. Dwayne was a cherished brother- in-law to Weldon Nelms (and wife Casey) of Weatherford, Texas, Susie Ferrand (and husband Manny) of San Antonio, Texas, and Teresa Kenny (and husband Brad) of Lewisville, Texas. His mother-in-law, Faye Nelms of San Antonio, Texas, held a special place in his heart. His life was further enriched by the joy of his grandchildren, Kason and Kynlee Crutcher, who knew him as Pops and found comfort and love in his embrace. Dwayne was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Virginia Johnson, and his father-in-law, Dub Nelms. His memory will also be cherished by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
Professionally, Dwayne was a respected figure in the oil field industry, dedicating over four decades to his work. He had an undeniable passion for the chemical business, thriving in sales where he took great pleasure in engaging with customers and ensuring their needs were met. Dwayne’s career with Acid Engineering led to a transfer to Andrews in 1976. At the time of his passing, he was serving as the Division Manager - Stimulation for SGB Solutions in Midland, Texas.
Dwayne’s interests and involvements painted the picture of a man who valued faith, family, and community. He was a devout Christian who loved his Savior, Jesus Christ, and exemplified this love in his everyday actions and commitments. Dwayne and Wanda taught Sunday school together at First Baptist Church, sharing their love for children and their faith with enthusiasm. His community spirit extended to the sporting realm, where he was actively involved in the Softball Association during his eldest daughter’s softball career and served as vice president of the AISD Booster Club when his girls were athletes at AHS.
Those who knew Dwayne will remember him as a man of integrity and warmth. His wife, Wanda, fondly called him her “white rock,” a symbol of the strength and stability he provided. He was her hero, a role he played with quiet humility and unwavering support. Dwayne’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and the unbreakable bonds of family.
The world is a lesser place without Dwayne’s presence, but his spirit lives on in the hearts of those he touched. He will be remembered not only for his accomplishments but for his kindness, his generous heart, and the steadfast love he had for his family.

Family and friends gathered to celebrate his life at 2:00PM, Thursday, May 16, 2024, at the First Baptist Church in Andrews, TX., with Pastor Brant O’Connor officiating. He will be laid to rest at the Andrews North Cemetery. A visitation was held from 6:00PM-8:00PM, Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at McNett Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the care of McNett Funeral Home.
