Gerry Howard Tucker
Gerry Howard Tucker, a cherished family man, esteemed businessman, and beloved member of his community, passed away on January 2, 2025, in Andrews, Texas. Born on June 24, 1938, in Hobbs, New Mexico, Gerry’s life was a tapestry of love, laughter, and adventure that spanned 86 remarkable years.
Gerry’s journey began as a son to E.H. and Mary Frances Tucker and blossomed as he grew into a role model and patriarch for his family. Gerry played football and baseball at Texas Christian University (TCU), where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity and met his college sweetheart, Lenn Young. His enduring love story with his late wife, Lenn, was a testament to devotion and partnership. Married over 60 years, they created a legacy of love that continued through their sons, Howdy Tucker and wife Victoria Priesmeyer, and Matt Tucker and wife Mandy, all of Austin, TX. Gerry’s brother, LeeVan Tucker and wife Bette of Lago Vista, TX, and his sister, Michael Ann Hall and husband Dowe of Streetman, TX, also held special places in his heart.
Gerry’s role as a grandfather was one of his most treasured. His grandchildren, Hayden Pistone and husband Dylan, Reagan Stanford and husband Travis, Colton Tucker, Avery Tucker, and Cameron Sullivan, brought him immeasurable joy. The birth of his greatgrandchild, Callan Pistone, added another layer of happiness to his life. Gerry’s family was the cornerstone of his world, and his presence in their lives will be deeply missed but fondly remembered.
A longtime resident of Andrews, Texas, Gerry was the respected owner of Tucker Construction, where his leadership and vision contributed significantly to the growth and success of the business. Gerry was deeply involved in his community and a committed member of Means Methodist Church for over 60 years. He and Lenn served the church faithfully, contributing to the church choir and participating in the young group, Sunday School, and numerous committees. Gerry loved serving the Methodist Men and was well known for his homemade biscuits and gravy. Gerry was also an active volunteer in the Kairos Prison Ministry, where he engaged in relational ministry with inmates. His work with Kairos reflected his compassionate heart and his desire to bring hope and faith to those who needed it most. Gerry and Lenn’s dedication to the community led them to be honored as the Pioneer Family of the Year by the Andrews Chamber of Commerce.
Gerry’s pride in his grandchildren’s achievements was unbounded, and he was their steadfast supporter in all their endeavors. His love for livestock shows was not just a hobby but a way to connect with friends and spend time with his kids and grandkids. In his later years, Gerry enjoyed working on puzzles, big and small, with friends and family.
Gerry’s interests were as diverse as they were engaging. Participating in the Star of Texas Trail Ride was an annual tradition with his longtime friend, Jack McCullough. An avid fisherman, Gerry cherished his summers fly fishing in Creede, Colorado, with his family where the rivers offered both tranquility and excitement. Gerry enjoyed his time competing in bass fishing tournaments with his brother-in-law, Dowe.
Adept at the blackjack table, Gerry’s skill was matched only by his love for storytelling and humor. He relished the opportunity to give his loved ones a hard time, all in good jest, and his social nature made him a friend to many.
With the love and support of Rachelle Gaines and Elizabeth Bejarano, Gerry was able to enjoy his final years to the fullest. They ensured he could travel, dine at his favorite restaurants, and find comfort at home. Their care and companionship made sure he could continue to do the things he loved. Thanks to their devotion, Gerry’s last years were filled with warmth, joy, and peace.
Gerry was preceded in death by his wife, Lenn; twin daughters, Sally and Tracy; parents, Mary Frances and E.H. Tucker.
Throughout his life, Gerry was known for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering faith. His presence will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the many lives he touched throughout his time in Andrews and beyond.
