Gladys Belew Sharbutt
Gladys Belew Sharbutt, 93, of Maryville, Tennessee passed away on Monday, November 19, 2018 in Maryville, TN.
Family and friends gathered to celebrate her life at a graveside service at 2:00 PM Saturday, November 24, 2018 in the Andrews West Cemetery in Andrews, Texas with son-in-law, Dr. Robert Ben Chambers, officiating. Visitation was held from 9 AM – 12 PM on Saturday at McNett Funeral Home in Andrews.
Gladys was born on April 11, 1925 to William Lewis Belew and Florence Jones Belew and was the youngest of 9 children. She was born in Denton, Texas and graduated from Seminole High School in 1943. She married Raymond Frederick Sharbutt on February 22, 1946 in Seminole, Texas and moved to Andrews in 1950’s. They recognized the value of service to their community, their church, and their family. She had worked as a bookkeeper for Forrest Lumber Company in Seminole and Andrews and for TXU Electric in Andrews and Odessa. They were past members of the Andrews Chamber of Commerce and the First Baptist Church in Andrews. In 1976, they moved to Odessa with Raymond’s work, and they were members of Crescent Park Baptist Church in Odessa. Raymond preceded her in death on October 28, 2008, and later she moved to Maryville, Tennessee to be closer to her daughter. Gladys lived a full life and enjoyed many friends in her time on earth. She enjoyed traveling and seeing new places. She was fascinated by the world and God’s creation. During her time at Shannondale Retirement Center in Maryville, TN, she made many friends and enjoyed all her time with them. She was active in the Shannondale Chapel and considered that her church family while there.
Gladys is survived by her children, Cheryl Ann Chambers and husband, Dr. Robert Ben Chambers, of Maryville, TN and Ray F. Sharbutt and his wife, Elena V. Sharbutt of Moriarty, NM; grandchildren, Micah Brett Chambers, his wife, Danay, and their son, John Asher Chambers; Emily Elaine Chambers Sharpe, husband, Rob, and their sons, Hugh Frederick, Axel James, Marshall Avis; Malcolm Raymond Sharbutt; Will Ross Sharbutt and his children Julia Sharbutt, Jamie Sharbutt, Jackson Sharbutt, Abigail Sharbutt; and Ilya Aksenov and Erika Espinosa and their daughter Lila Aksenova, and by many nieces and nephews, including Evelyn Eades of Andrews. Gladys Sharbutt was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 8 siblings, and grandson, Thomas Madera Sharbutt.
