Homer Cornelius Hays

Homer Cornelius Hays, 83, of Andrews, Texas passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2023.

Family and friends gathered to celebrate his life at 10:00 AM Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at the McNett Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Chapman officiating. Interment followed in the Andrews North Cemetery. Visitation was held from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Tuesday at McNett Funeral Home.

Homer was born on March 16, 1940 in Tyler, Texas to Wilburn L. Hays and Louise I. (Brown) Hays. He married Wanda Preas on April 4, 1959 in Big Spring, Texas. They moved to Andrews in 1975. Homer proudly served his country in the United States Army for 15 years. He served 2 tours in Vietnam. He worked for Falcon Trucking as a diesel mechanic as well as working as a truck driver and shop foreman over the years. His shop was his pride and joy and he spent many hours there doing engine overhauls and working with wood and metal. He also had a special fondness of electric trains. Homer will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilburn and Louise Hays.

Homer is survived by his wife of 64 years, Wanda Hays of Andrews, Texas, sons, Homer W. Hays and wife Ave Annel of Andrews, Texas and Hondo Hays and wife Amy of Tuscola, Texas, 7 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
