Jerry Mac Tharp

Jerry Mac Tharp, a beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on Thursday December 5, 2024, at his residence in Voss, Texas, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 19, 1950, in San Angelo, Texas, to Homer D. Tharp and Virginia B. Gatlin Tharp. Jerry was a man whose life was defined by his dedication to family, friends, and faith.

Jerry’s education included attending Andrews High School followed by Sam Houston State University, laying the groundwork for a life filled with learning and growth. He met his lifelong love, Tarecia Trish Beck at the Dairy Queen in Andrews in 1972.

Jerry retired from Amoco-Oxy USA of the Permian Basin, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and leadership. Throughout his personal and professional career, he mentored, coached, and led those in his circle of influence with compassion and care. He exemplified this in his roles as President of the Permian Basin Corvette Club, Fire Chief and President of the Like Ivie Volunteer Fire Department, and President of the Apache Hills Homeowners Association. A devoted family man, Jerry took immense pride in his role as a husband, father, and Bop Bop. His most cherished accomplishment was being a supportive partner to his wife and three incredible children.

Throughout his life, Jerry created a warm and welcoming atmosphere wherever he went. He openedhishometoanyone and welcomed them with amazing BBQ and Dutch Oven meals. He had a passion for improvement whether that be restoring old cars, adding on decks, patios, and other home improvement projects, or working to improve the lives of others. His humble spirit and honest wisdom endeared him to many, and he was blessed with a network of dear friends who cherished him deeply. Most importantly, Jerry was a man of faith who shared Jesus everywhere he went, inspiring others with his kindness and generosity.

He is survived by his wife, Trish Tharp of Voss; his incredible children, Tisha Tharp-Butler and her husband James of The Woodlands, Jaciann Smith and her husband Chad of Naples, Florida, and Jeremy Tharp and his wife Alannah Crooms of Cedar Park. Jerry also has ten amazing grandchildren and four precious greatgrandchildren, who will carry on his legacy. His memory will also be cherished by his two sisters, Sue Smith and Wanda DeShazo, and nieces and nephews he loved with all his heart.

Jerry Mac Tharp has joined some of his favorite people in Heaven, leaving behind a profound impact on the lives he touched. He will be remembered for his love, laughter, and unwavering support as a husband, father, and friend. His presence will be profoundly missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him.
