Joyce Carter Wagner
Joyce Carter Wagner, a cherished wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away peacefully at her home in Andrews, Texas, on December 14, 2024, at the age of 89. Born on January 28, 1935, in San Augustine, Texas to Albert Carter and Jessie Cummings Carter. Joyce’s younger years were marked with hardships and heartache with the passing of her mother. She was shuffled between relatives. When she was 12, she found her forever home with her Uncle Elijah and Aunt Margaret Carter. These hardships shaped her into a very independent woman, with a very compassionate heart of service.
Joyce married the love of her life, Buffard LJ Wagner, on December 28, 1953. They moved to Fort Sill, Oklahoma where he was stationed and had a son, Dwayne. He only lived a few days before Jesus called him home.
When Buffard and Joyce returned to Andrews they welcomed a daughter, Darla, and a son, Lyn. After returning to Andrews, Joyce became the bookkeeper for Falcon Trucking and continued to work for the family until 2018.
Joyce was a lifelong member of the Assemblies of God serving different local churches in different capacities. She served on the church board, as a secretary and treasurer. She was a loved Sunday School teacher, known for making 100’s of cupcakes every Saturday for the kids to enjoy during Sunday School with a little Dr Pepper. She would often make cakes for every family in the church for Christmas, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and other special occasions. She would take note of every visitor at church and sometime during the next week would show up at their house with a cake to let them know they were special and to invite them back.
Joyce and Buffard’s lives were built on faith in God and making sure everyone around them knew the Lord. They were the cornerstone of their family, making sure everyone was together for Holidays, church, Sunday afternoon meals and vacations. Family was so very important to her so Joyce and her brother Shorty made it their goal to plan summer vacations together starting in the 1960s and even after his passing she made it a tradition to continue planning similar vacations with her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids.
Joyce leaves behind a legacy of strength, unwavering faith, and heart of service to everyone. Joyce is survived by a son, Lyn Wagner, and wife, Joann, daughter, Darla Moore and husband, Jerry.
