Laura Hoffman

Graveside services for Laura Hoffman, age 96 of Odessa and formerly of Seminole, Texas, will be held Saturday, October 12, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Gaines County Memorial Cemetery with Dean Boyer officiating. Burial will follow at Gaines County Memorial Cemetery. All services are under the direction of Boyer Funeral Home.

Mrs. Hoffman was born December 27, 1927 in Manistee, Michigan, the only daughter of Alta (Epler) and David Hillsamer. Laura was a Christian, and never adopted the Texas accent. Her parents were full-blooded German and after living in Michigan the family moved to Florida, where she attended high school in Okeechobee. She met her first husband, a tall Texan, while her family lived in Florida and they moved to Texas. They followed oil rigs and traveled extensively, finally settling in Andrews where they bought a Shell station and Laura kept the books. She was supposed to get a ’57 Thunderbird but became pregnant and got her daughter instead. She never did get her Thunderbird!

Laura met another tall Texan, Pappy Hoffman, in 1977 and they married in 1978 in El Paso. They moved to Seminole that same year. They enjoyed traveling all over the world, even going to Japan and Hong Kong. They visited most of the United States in their motorhome, took cruises to Alaska and more. Laura spent her final years at Brookdale Assisted Living in Odessa and made friends with all the staff; she was known to be a note writer and had her own opinion about how things should be run.

Laura Hoffman passed away in Odessa on Monday, October 7, 2024. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Clyde Welch in 2016, and her second husband D.G. “Pappy” Hoffman in 2006. She is survived by one daughter, Linda Davis and husband Larry of Andrews, Texas, and one grandson, Hunter Davis of Sherman Oaks, California.
