Lenora K. (“Lee”) Locke
Lenora K. (“Lee”) Locke, age 93, of Kerrville, Texas, passed away on August 13, 2024, in Kerrville, Texas. She was born in Hubbard, Texas, to Thomas Ervan Kornegay and Ida Lenora Kornegay on April 2, 1931. She was married to Robert R. (“Bob”) Locke on November 24, 1956, in Fort Worth, Texas.
Lee grew up and attended school in Penelope, Texas, where she graduated high school as valedictorian. She also was part of the women’s basketball team there which went to State Championship playoffs in 1947 and 1948. Following high school, Lee moved to Fort Worth, TX, and went to secretarial school while taking care of her mother and younger brother. She met her future husband, Bob Locke, at Pure Oil Company in Fort Worth, and they married six months later in 1956. After their son was born, they moved frequently for her husband’s job in the oil industry and finally ended up in the West Texas town of Andrews. Lee was a homemaker and intimately involved in her son’s upbring volunteering for school, scouting, church, and many other civic activities.
After their son left home for college, they moved to Midland, TX, where Lee went back to work in the oil industry holding various positions as executive secretary, geological tech, engineering tech, and finally training herself to be a production clerk. Both Lee and Bob retired in Midland, and then moved their primary residence to Kerrville, TX in 1995. Lee continued her passion for volunteer work at First Presbyterian Church in Kerrville where she was a Deacon.
Summers were spent in Colorado, where they built a log cabin near Tincup, CO. Their summer home reflected their love for Colorado, where Lee, Bob, and their son spent many wonderful vacations as a family during both summers and winters. Theirs was a very tightknit family that provided great love and support for each other.
Lee was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Bob Locke; her parents, Thomas and Ida Kornegay; her sister, Frona Upton; and her brother, Jerry Wayman Kornegay.
Lee is survived by her son, Stephen R. Locke, and niece, Sharon Maki.
