Manuel Renteria Munoz

Manuel Renteria Munoz, a cherished husband, father, brother, grandfather, and greatgrandfather, passed away on June 6, 2024, in Odessa, TX, at the age of 69. Born on October 4, 1954, in Ojinaga, Mexico, to the late Jesus and Ramona Munoz, Manuel’s life was a testament to his unwavering faith, love for family, and dedication to his community.

Manuel’s journey with his beloved wife began on December 27, 1975, in Mulato, Mexico, when he united in marriage with Juanita Munoz. Together, they built a life filled with love and purpose, welcoming two sons, Jesse Munoz and his wife Selime Y., and Roy Munoz and his wife Dulce Idabel. He was a proud brother to Jesus Munoz, Juan Munoz, Maria Elena Payen, Zulema Munoz, and Noemi Munoz. Manuel was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Mario Munoz, Jose Munoz, and Aurelio Munoz.

A pillar of his family, Manuel’s legacy lives on through his adoring grandchildren, Alyssa Pewitt, Daniel Munoz, Evan Munoz, Zyan Munoz, Genesis Munoz, Jaden Munoz, and Jesus Manuel Munoz Jr., as well as his greatgrandchildren, Brynlee Fe Pewitt and Memphis Grey Pewitt.

Manuel’s professional life was marked by his remarkable work ethic and the respect he earned in the oil industry. He started as a roustabout and, with the guidance of mentors he advanced to Rig Operator, he held this position for 30 years. Known affectionately as El Tio Meño by his colleagues, he became a mentor to many, sharing his knowledge and wisdom with the next generation of oil field workers.

His faith was the cornerstone of his life, and for over 43 years, he was a devoted member of the Filadelfia Assembly of God Church. Manuel’s service to God extended beyond the walls of his church; he was passionate about his mission trips to Acuña, spreading love, and sharing the gospel with those in need.

Music was one of Manuel’s greatest passions. Under the guidance of his mentor, Raul Aguirre, he learned to play the Bajo-Sexto in 1993. He practiced tirelessly, and by 1995, he had formed a family band. Together, they brought joy and worship to countless congregations traveling to Lamesa, Ft. Stockton, Pecos, and beyond. Manuel’s music was the cornerstone of his life, and his passion was felt by all who had the pleasure of hearing him play.
