Maurice “Ruth” Gray

Maurice “Ruth” Gray, 92, of Denton Valley died Thursday, March 2, 2023, at her home. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 6, 2023, at the Dudley Cemetery with Pastor Jim Renfro officiating under the direction of Bailey Howard Funeral Home of Clyde. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Ruth was born February 14, 1931, in Callahan County to Wylie Lavagas and Ada Rebecca (Scott) Loper. She attended elementary school in Denton Valley and high school in Anson. She married Emory Clayton Gray, Jr. in Denton Valley on June 17, 1947. Ruth worked in food service at Andrews ISD for over 20 years, retiring in 1985 as the director of food service. She moved back to Denton Valley from Andrews in 1986 and was a member of Eula Methodist Church.

She is survived by two sons, Destry Gray and wife Brenda of Andrews and Clay Gray and wife Denese of Denton Valley; five grandchildren, Brian Gray and wife Micah of Midland, Nathan Gray and wife Cathy of Andrews, Shamra Garner and husband Chris of Lindsay, Brent Gray and wife Randi of Denton Valley and Brad Gray and wife Kelly of Denton Valley; 14 great grandchildren, Brayden, Bryce, Hailey, Hannah, Addison, Caleb, Michael, Johnna, Clayton, Colton, Camryn, Kinsler, Hattie and Baker; one great-great grandson, Oliver and many nieces and nephews.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, E.C. and two brothers, Landon and Duane Loper.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donation to Kinder Hearts Hospice, 842 N. Mockingbird Ln., Abilene, Texas 79603.
