Michael “Mike” Reed Parker

Michael “Mike” Reed Parker, 63, passed from this life on October 2, 2021, surrounded by his loving family after a 6 month battle with cancer.

Friends and Family will gather to celebrate his life at 10:00 AM Wednesday, October 6, 2021, in the Andrews North Cemetery with Pastor Leslie Boone Officiating. The Family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 5, 2021, from 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM at McNett Funeral Home Chapel. Arrangements are under the personal care of McNett Funeral Home.

Mike was born on July 4, 1958, to Hollis Floyd “Buck” Parker and Cleo Vivian Reed in Andrews, Texas. Growing up, Mike loved playing baseball, football, running track, fishing, riding bikes with his friends and sharing his ice cream with his dog, Frito.

After high school graduation in 1976, Mike went to work in the oilfield and married his high school sweetheart, Tonia Thornton in 1978. Together, they raised four children, many goats, and managed their own businesses. Mike enjoyed working at the Andrews County Airport and then being a Foreman for the County for several years. During that time, he began playing golf as well as steer roping, but his life-long passion for fishing continued. Mike had a big sense of humor and a huge heart for others. He would give a man the shirt of off his back and enjoyed helping others when he could. He was such an encouragement to so many who knew him. His biggest accomplishments were raising his children to love God, loving his wife like Jesus loves the church, and being a loyal friend to his group of best friends. Mike was a Christian and a member of the Andrews Church of Christ.

Mike was predeceased by the death of his older brother, Jerry Parker in 1978; his son, Cole Parker in 1995; his father, H. F. “Buck” Parker in 1992; and his mother, Cleo Parker in 2020.

He is survived by his wife, Tonia; his daughters, Keesha and Jasmine; and his son, Will.

Mike is also survived by his older sister, Barbara Parker Ragland and her husband, Larry, his mother and father-in-law, Ann and Ernest Thornton. In addition, Mike has nieces, nephews, cousins, and brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-laws who love him and will miss his presence in their lives.
