Graveside services for Redah Marley Price, age 102 of Andrews, Texas were held Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at 1:30 at Terry County Memorial Cemetery in Brownfield, Texas with Brother Dale Mannon officiating. Redah Price was born October 26, 1919 at Cary, Childress County, Texas to Dora (Jones) and William Cole. She married Norman Marley December 30, 1937 in Brownfield and was his loving and devoted wife until his death on March 22, 1984. They had 46 years together. She then married H.D. Price November 11, 2000 in Commerce, Hunt County, Texas. They had 16 years together in Andrews before his death on November 26, 2016.
One of the first things you would notice when you went into Redah’s house was the clippings of inspirational poems or sayings, words of encouragement and guidance. She enjoyed displaying them on the refrigerator or clip board or anywhere they might be seen. Redah’s mother raised her children with Bible reading and prayers at night before going to bed, and Redah continued that tradition raising her children. She also enjoyed singing hymns. They were a singing family and would sing most of the time when they were all together. Redah never complained about her situation or of her pains. She was always thankful. She encouraged her children to be thankful and always put God first. Redah was instrumental in teaching her children to work. They all had chores and all helped with fixing breakfast as they grew older. They also worked in the cotton field all summer. All of her children grew up with good work ethic. She wanted them to be a good example to others and to do their best at whatever they were doing. They enjoyed going on end-of-school vacations to the mountains of New Mexico. Redah always enjoyed the campfire and roasting weenies and marshmallows. They worked hard and looked forward to their vacation time in New Mexico. As their family grew up, got married and moved away, Redah and Norman enjoyed going to visit their children and grandchildren. They also visited the homes of her brothers and sisters throughout the years. Redah and her siblings were very close as were her children close to their mother. Family was very important to her. According to Redah, the best part of any meal was the dessert and a meal just wasn’t complete without something sweet. She enjoyed crocheting in her leisure time, and made each one of her children a full sized bedspread, whatever size they needed. She crocheted many other gifts for friends and family. She also liked word find puzzles in her later years. As the daughter of a farmer and the wife of a farmer also, Redah knew how to can their garden vegetables and make preserves, jellies and pickles. They always had a garden and, at times, fruit trees. She did her share of working in the garden and in the cotton fields. Redah worked in the lunch room at Wellman for a time. Redah’s main job was being a wife, mother, and homemaker, which she did exceptionally well.
Redah Marley Price is preceded death by her parents; both of her husbands, two sons, Shelby Eugene and Jesse Homer, a son-in-law, Joe Allen, and a grandson, Russell Allen. Those left to cherish her memories are two sons, Spencer and wife Carolyn of Slaton, Texas, and Ken and wife Jackie of Lubbock, Texas; two daughters, Norma and husband Bob Chaffin of Russellville, Alabama and Edna Allen of Van Alstyne, Texas; and Redah had nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and three greatgreat-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
