Robert Ray Buckley was born on December 10,1951 to Robert G. Buckley and Betty Jo Brown in Abilene, Texas. He went to be with Jesus His Savior on June 10, 2024.

His dad was an oilfield worker, so the family moved a lot. In spite of this, Robert adjusted and was an excellent student. Their son Phillip was born in 1976 in Odessa, where they made their home. They later moved to Oklahoma City, Midland, and returned to Andrews in 1982.

His favorite pastime was golf, and he made many good friends during rounds of golf over the years. He also enjoyed hunting and snow skiing. His favorite quiet activities were reading and watching science fiction/fantasy movies. He also was a fan of the Texas Rangers, the Houston Texans, and the Kansas City Chiefs. He admired Christian athletes and other leaders who lived their faith.

He became a Christian at age 14 and was a member of First Baptist Church for over 50 years. He had the privilege of being a Sunday School teacher and a deacon while a member there. He loved music and used his beautiful bass voice by serving in the Celebration Choir.

He held numerous jobs in the oil industry. He began a rewarding career I 1993 working for Apache Corporation, where he retired as materials supervisor in 2008. His life was marred by health problems, but he beat the odds over and over with God’s blessing and by having a great attitude about life. His optimism and sense of humor were and inspiration to those around him.
