Victor Lewis Thomas
Victor Lewis Thomas died at home in Lubbock, TX with his wife Paula Roberts Thomas by his side on July 9, 2021. Victor was born in Holdenville, OK in 1943 to Geraldine Bowles Thomas and Jack Harold Thomas.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at Andrews West Cemetery for a graveside service in Andrews with Rev. Rick Doyle officiating.
Victor and his mother lived with her parents in Wetumka, OK for two years while Jack served in the Army Air Corp in England as an aerial photographer. The young family lived in Tulsa, then Levelland, TX while Victor was in elementary school. They transferred to Andrews, TX for Jack’s job with Amoco when Vic was in Junior High. Vic graduated from Andrews High School in 1961. Vic played tennis to the state level in inter scholastic league and trumpet in the band. He was the leader of the Mighty Mustang Band his senior year when the band marched in the Cotton Bowl parade and halftime show in Dallas. Vic began studying at Odessa College, then received a B.S. electrical engineering degree from the University of Texas in El Paso. He worked for Amoco in Lake Charles, Louisiana briefly. Vic was commissioned in 1968 upon graduation from Officer Training, Lackland AFB, TX. He earned his US Air Force pilot wings at Moody AFC, GA. Vic was assigned to Mather AFB, CA where he attained the rank of Major and became an instructor pilot. Later, Vic was in the Air Force Reserves and lived in Mojave, CA. He completed a Certificate of Achievement in Photography & Photographic Imagining from Antelope Valley College in Lancaster, CA. In 2000.
Vic is survived by two cousins: Terry Thomas & family of Andrews, TX. & Martie Thomas & her family of Weatherford, TX. He is also survived by his wife Paula Roberts Thomas & family: Melissa & Kirby Wood & children Kate & Alex Wood of Lubbock; Amy, Matthew & Jude Hayes of Rock Hill, SC and Russell Wood & Chris Wood of Albuquerque, NM and brother-in-law Jim Roberts of Ft Worth, TX. Vic will be buried in Andrews, TX next to his parents.
