Arturo F. Lopez, 71, of Lubbock passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2019 in Lubbock.
Family and friends gathered to celebrate his life at 10:00 AM Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 201 NE Avenue K, in Andrews with Rev. Joseph Ogbonna, Pastor, officiating. Interment followed in the Andrews North Cemetery. Rosary Services were recited at 7:00 PM on Monday at McNett Funeral Home Chapel, 705 North Main Street, in Andrews. Arturo was born on February 8, 1948 in Sanderson, Texas to Jesus Gandaria Lopez and Maria Inez Fierro Lopez. He was raised in Andrews and graduated from Andrews High School in 1966. He married Amelia Jimenez on July 16, 1967 in Andrews. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant. He moved to Lubbock in 1970 and coached his children in sports as they grew up. He had worked for Furr’s Grocery Warehouse and then for the U.S. Post Office for 32 ½ years in the Lubbock area. He graduated from South Plains College in 1982 with a degree in Drafting. He was quiet, but could become the life of the party, where he loved to sing, play his guitar and the keyboard, and tell stories. He enjoyed playing washers, golfing, Texas Tech Red Raiders, and the Dallas Cowboys. He loved to travel and spend time with his family and watching his grandchildren play sports. He was a perfectionist that was very gifted and talented with his hands. He was a great artist and had painted murals at the Post Office and would hand paint shirts for his children’s sports teams. He was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Lubbock. He was preceded in death by his parents, and 2 brothers, Johnny Lopez and Jesus R. “Jessie” Lopez.
Arturo is survived by his wife, Amelia of Lubbock, 4 children, Vicky Sulaica and husband, Pablo, of Round Rock, Arty Lopez and wife, Michelle, of Lubbock, Yoli Cardona and husband, Sammy, of McKinney, and Anthony Lopez of McKinney, 4 siblings, Berta Lopez of Andrews, Mary Thrasher and husband, Larry, of Tyler, George L. Lopez and wife, Rhonda, of San Angelo, and Oscar F. Lopez of Andrews, 14 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.
