Ruth Hyatt, 88, of Andrews passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2020 in Andrews.
Family and friends gathered to celebrate her life at 10:00 am Friday, June 19, 2020 at Means Memorial United Methodist Church in Andrews with Pastor Les Hall officiating. Cremation is under the personal care of McNett Funeral Home. The family received friends from 6-8 pm on Thursday at the funeral home. Nancy Ruth Hale Hyatt was born to Travis and Lizzie Eldora Wyatt Hale, on February 27, 1932, in Sweetwater, Texas. The third of seven children, she followed her two brothers, becoming the oldest of five girls. Times were hard, especially after Lizzie died in 1946, and Ruth stepped up, at the age of 14, to be a momma to her four sisters, having to quit school so that she could care for them, the house, and cooking. Ruth moved to Andrews in 1956 and worked as a waitress. She and Jesse A. Hyatt were married on March 15th, 1957, making their home in Andrews where they would build their life and raise their son. Ruth was involved in many things, filling her life with activities and people. She was a hard worker, and certain about how she wanted things done. As a decades-long employee of Jones-McCall Pharmacy, many people were drawn in by her outgoing personality. Her attractive appearance is recalled by everyone, as she was always sure to be well dressed and put together. Even out on the golf course, or skiing, or running around with “the girls”, she was sure to be one of the “cutest”. Passionate about politics, she served for many years in the Republican Women’s Association. Twenty years ago, she and Jesse became members of the Means Memorial Methodist Church, where she found her church home, involving herself as a helper and regular attendee until her health prevented her from doing so. A fun-loving, talented little lady, with colorful language, who loved to dance, and who loved being with all her sisters, will be missed by everyone. After a long battle with dementia, she departed this earth early on June 16, 2020, with her husband at her side. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two siblings, Clive Hale and Wanda White.
She’s survived by her husband, Jess Hyatt of Andrews, sons Kenneth W. Hyatt and spouse Cynthia of Menard, Texas and Jimbo McMennamy and spouse Margy of Lubbock, Texas, sisters, Helen Van and spouse Bill of Arizona, Mildred Crouch of Hamlin, Texas, and Evelyn Glover and spouse Philip of Hamlin, Texas, brother, Cecil Hale of Abilene, Texas, numerous grandchildren whom she loved dearly, as well as many other extended family members.
