Linda Melton Brown
Linda Melton Brown passed from this life into the next in the afternoon hours of Thursday, November 11, 2021, at 67 years young. Born on February 19, 1954, she was the oldest child of George E. Melton and Clara M. Melton, both of whom preceded her in death. Linda married Rodney Brown in Las Cruces, New Mexico, and they celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary this year. One daughter was born of Linda and Rodney’s marriage, Rylei Cole Brown.
Linda was an accomplished dancer and was a long-time member of the “Jewels of the Nile” which was part of the Middle Eastern Dance Organization. Her love of dancing led her to teach ballet, tap and regional style dancing to young girls in Andrews. While raising her daughter, Linda was very active in 4-H and Girl Scouts and assisted with many other school activities. She carried on this tradition with each of her grandchildren.
Linda was involved for many years with the Andrews community. She served on numerous committees such as the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Women’s Division, The Business and Trade Association (B.T.A.), Cultural Affairs, and the Wild Wild West Fest Committees. She also volunteered as much as possible for community projects and annual events like Meals on Wheels, Keep Andrews Beautiful, Operation Blessing, Oktoberfest, the Chamber of Commerce Banquet, Ride to Remember, Holly Jolly Weekend, Dia de Las Madres, Dia de los Muertos and Veterans Day festivities. Linda also gave countless hours working in the Chamber of Commerce office, the Andrews Food Bank and school administration office.
Linda was a devoted grandmother, who enjoyed traveling, sharing new experiences and making new memories with her grandchildren. She found a new purpose as an Ambassador of Plexus, and enjoyed traveling to annual conventions, and meeting new friends with the same passion for health and wellness.
Linda leaves behind her family members, her husband, Rodney Brown, her daughter, Rylei and son in law, Javier Urias, her three beloved grandchildren who knew her as Noama, Tonatiuh, Tepeuh and Tonantzin Urias, who feel her loss deeply. She also leaves behind cousins, nieces and a nephew, and many friends who love and respect her for the unique individual she was.
A memorial service to honor Linda’s life will be held on Saturday, November 20th at 11:30 am at the Andrews Chamber Legacy Park, which is located at 700 W. Broadway in Andrews. The memorial will be open to any and everyone who loved Linda. She lived a great life worth celebrating.
