Barry Keith McDonald
Barry Keith McDonald, a man who orchestrated his life with the same precision and passion as he did his beloved classic rock tunes, has played his final encore. Born on March 3, 1954, in Wichita Falls, Texas, Barry’s melody began, and it resonated through the years until his peaceful finale in Andrews, Texas, on March 12, 2024.
A husband to Pamela Colbert McDonald, a father to Colbert Keith McDonald and Lee Colbert McDonald and husband Luke, a brother to Charles Scott McDonald and wife Angelika, and a grandfather to Emma Rea McDonald, Adilyn Grey McDonald, and Lyle Russell McDonald, Barry’s band of loved ones finally tuned over the course of time. Together with Pam, his lifelong duet partner whom he married on January 4, 1973, they created a life that was nothing short of a hit record.
Barry’s academic journey hit a high note at Midwestern State University, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in History and Political Science. Sure, he could tell you all about the past, but Barry was a man who lived very much in the present, especially when it came to his family, his tunes, and his vast gun collection.
Speaking of tunes, Barry was not just a fan of music; he was a maestro in his own right. A collector of guitars, guns, and knives, he knew his way around a riff as well as he did a shadow box. And let’s not forget his crafting skills—there was no shadow too dark for Barry to fill with his creativity and no box too shallow for his boundless imagination.
His love for the Rangers was as legendary as their own playbook, and he never missed a chance to root for the home team. He and Pam enjoyed many a game, cheering them on with the kind of enthusiasm that would make even the most stoic umpire crack a smile.
Now, some might say Barry was a renaissance man, and they wouldn’t be wrong. He could strum a guitar, craft a shadow box, and even mow the yard with an artist’s touch. But let’s not skirt around the fact that Barry was also the king of clean laundry. Yes, he was the man who made sure every shirt was as clean as his guitar riffs and every pair of socks as perfectly paired as his melodies.
Barry’s life was a symphony. His laughter was infectious, his spirit indomitable, and his love for his family was as deep as the blues he so adored.
As we bid farewell to Barry Keith McDonald, let’s not dwell on the silence left behind. Instead, let’s crank up the volume on our memories and let his classic rock spirit echo in our hearts. After all, legends never truly fade away—they just transition to the greatest gig of all.
Barry, for the lessons you’ve taught us, the laughter you’ve given us, and the love you’ve shared with us, we thank you. You may have left the stage, but your encore will play on forever in the lives of those you’ve touched. Rock on, Barry. Rock on!
