George Rex Richards
George Rex Richards, a cherished husband, beloved father, and respected community member, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2024, in Andrews, Texas, at the age of 83. Born on November 8, 1940, in Litchfield, Illinois, George’s life was marked by dedication to his family, his work, and his community.
After graduating from Litchfield High School, George’s journey led him to the love of his life, Pat Ann Hill. The couple united in marriage on August 2, 1977, in Lubbock, Texas, and shortly thereafter settled in Abernathy, Texas, before making their permanent home in Andrews in 1979. George’s professional life was largely spent as a Supervisor for West Texas Gas, where he demonstrated his leadership skills and commitment to excellence.
George’s influence extended beyond his professional endeavors as hebecame anintegralpart of various associations. His remarkable 47year membership with the Independent Order Of Odd Fellows was distinguished by his tenure on the Board of Trustees for 17 years and his esteemed role as Grand Master of Texas in 2017. His commitment to fellowship was further reflected in his active participation in Good Sam and his devout membership at Means Methodist Church in Andrews.
A patriot at heart, George served in the Illinois National Guard, upholding the values of duty and service that would remain central throughout his life. His sense of humor and love for being part of the community were as much a part of him as his steadfast reliability.
George’s greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Pat Richards of Andrews, TX; his children, Becky Estes and husband John of Lubbock, TX, Anita Robinson and husband John of Clear Lake Shores, TX, John Richards and wife Patsy of Colorado, Jeff Richards of Arizona, and Jacki Richards of Arizona; his brother, Tommie Richards and wife Brenda of Lubbock, TX; and his sister, Patti Wooten and husband Ray of San Angelo, TX. George’s legacy continues through his six grandchildren, Spring McDonnell of Lubbock, TX, Farrah Criner of Midland, TX, Kacie Birkes and husband Matthew of Robinson, TX, Summer Reed and husband Tyson of Lubbock, TX, Jade Poole of Colorado, and Justin Richards of Colorado; as well as 15 great-grandchildren.
His nieces and nephews, Robbie, Renee, Michael, Cyndi, Stephanie, and Philip, will remember their uncle as a man of humor, warmth, and unwavering support. George’s love for his family was unparalleled, and he cherished every moment spent with them. His marriage to Pat was a testament to his deep capacity for love and partnership.
George Rex Richards lived a life full of purpose, love, and laughter. Those who knew him will remember his wisdom, his kindness, and his ability to bring a smile to anyone’s face. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who loved him, but his spirit will continue to inspire and guide his family and friends.
As we bid farewell to George, we celebrate a life well-lived, marked by devotion to family, service to others, and a legacy of positive impact that will endure for generations. His memory will be treasured, and his life’s story will be recounted with admiration and love. George Rex Richards will be deeply missed, but the memories he created will forever be a beacon of light for his loved ones.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life at 11:00AM, Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at the Means Methodist Church in Andrews, TX, with Pastor Kevin Bushart officiating. A private burial will be held at the IOOF Cemetery in Abernathy, TX, at a later date.
