Martin Jay Luttrall
Martin Jay Luttrall, a cherished soul known for his unwavering kindness and infectious smile, peacefully passed away on March 30, 2024, in Katy, Texas, at the age of 84. Born on November 17, 1939, in Stonewall County, Texas, Martin was a beacon of joy and generosity throughout his life, leaving a legacy of love and cherished memories.
Raised in Andrews, Texas, after attending elementary school in Tarzan, TX, Martin’s early years were filled with the warmth of a close-knit community and the loving guidance of his parents, Miles and Lorene Luttrall. Although he later bid farewell to his sisters Lillian Cowart and husband Lesli, June Turnbow and husband Roy, and Sherlyn Peel and husband Robert, as well as his brother-in-law Ray Chapman, Martin’s life was a testament to the strength and bonds of family.
Martin was a devoted husband to his wife of 40 years, Jerry Holder Luttrall, whom he married on August 20, 1982. Together, they nurtured a blended family that included his children Tim Luttrall and wife Pam, Tony Luttrall and wife Audra, Tammie Hunt and husband Donnie, Terrie Braunholz and husband Stephen, and stepsons Keith Holder and wife Kathy, and Kent Holder and wife Gena. Martin’s sisters, Faye Chapman, and Sue Gilchrest with her husband Ronnie, also hold dear the memories of their beloved brother.
A proud grandfather, Martin’s legacy lives on through his grandchildren Cori Becerra and husband Will, Luke Luttrall, Shera Williamson, Dalton Luttrall and wife Nicoel, Brittany Luttrall, and Peavy Braunholz, as well as his step-grandchildren Amber Holder Voyles, Katherine Holder, Jackie Holder, David Holder, and Thomas J Holder, and his treasured great-grandchild, Callen Luttrall.
Martin’s life was characterized by his deep faith and active membership in the Andrews Church of Christ, where he made his spiritual home. His commitment to his faith was evident in every aspect of his life, and he found great joy in sharing God’s love with others.
Professionally, Martin was dedicated to his career at Dr. Pepper, where he served the community for 23 years before retiring in 2005. Known affectionately as “the Dr. Pepper man,” Martin’s career spanned nearly 40 years of delivering bottled soft drinks across various parts of Texas. His warm, welcoming nature made him a beloved figure in Andrews, as he never missed an opportunity to engage in friendly conversation with everyone he met during his deliveries.
Outside of work, Martin’s passions were simple yet profound. He took immense pride in maintaining a beautiful lawn and working outdoors. But above all, his love for his children and grandchildren shone brightest. Martin’s kindness, his big smiles, and his willingness to help others were the hallmarks of his character, touching the lives of many and leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those he encountered.
As we say goodbye to Martin Jay Luttrall, we celebrate a life well-lived—a life filled with compassion, service, and an unending capacity to love. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Martin’s memory will forever be a guiding light, inspiring us to live with the same generosity of spirit that he embodied every day.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life at 10:30AM, Saturday, April 6, 2024, at the Andrews County North Cemetery with Pastor Terry Duzan officiating. A visitation will be held from 5:00PM-8:00PM, Friday, April 5, 2024, at McNett Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the personal care of McNett Funeral Home.
