Buffard LJ Wagner
Buffard LJ Wagner, a cherished husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and greatgrandfather, passed away peacefully at his home in Andrews, Texas, on April 24, 2024, at the age of 90. Born on July 13, 1933, in Waldron, Arkansas, to Carel and Nora Wagner, Buffard’s life was a testament to his unwavering faith, his dedication to his family, and his service to his country and community.
He was a devoted family man and is survived by his loving wife Joyce Wagner of Andrews, TX; his son Lyn Wagner and wife JoAnn of Odessa, TX; his daughter Darla Moore and husband Jerry of Andrews, TX; his sister Clara “Nell” Franklin and her husband Gerald of Dallas, TX. A niece, Monica Komar, and husband Dave of Kansas City, Missouri, and nephew, Dr. Marc Franklin of New Braunfels, Texas. Buffard’s legacy continues through his five granddaughters: Jessalynne Denison and husband Heath, Lyncee Phillips and husband Tim, Keeley Leverett and husband Steve, Lynette Wagner and partner Nic Bryson, Andrea Wagner and partner Craig Rocha. Three bonus grandsons, Jared Moore and wife Tiffany of Midland, TX, Nathan Moore and wife Christie of Farmersville, TX, and Lyndsey Moore and wife Michelle of Lavon, TX. He was also blessed with 14 great-grandchildren: Mykalynne Wells, Malachi Wells, Ryleigh Phillips, Kelton Phillips, Sammy Leverett, Kynlee Leverett, Whitney Leverett, Rebel Rocha, Kara Moore, Colton Moore, Hunter Moore, Amber Moore, Caleb Moore, and Brayden Moore who brought him immense joy in his later years.
Buffard proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955 stationed at Fort Sill. During his first leave, he came home and married the love of his life, Joyce Wagner on December 28, 1953. While at Fort Sill, Buffard and Joyce welcomed a baby boy Dwayne. He only lived a few days before Jesus called him home. This loss caused Buffard’s faith to grow and he never waivered, so that he could one day see Dwayne in Heaven.
When Buffard and Joyce returned to Andrews they welcomed a daughter, Darla and a son, Lyn.
After his time in the Army, Buffard, started a 33 year career at the El Paso Plant in Odessa. Buffard’s work ethic, leadership and loyalty helped him as he advanced to Plant Supervisor. His colleagues respected him for his dedication and the wisdom he imparted during his many years of service.
Buffard was a lifelong member of the Assemblies of God serving different local churches as the needs arose. He served on the church board, as a deacon, secretary and treasurer. He was a beloved Sunday School teacher, Royal Ranger Leader, and the favorite bus and van driver for many children in the community every Sunday and Wednesday. Affectionately nicknamed “Crash Test Dummy” by the kids he transported. Buffard’s sense of humor and love for children were evident to all who knew him.
Buffard’s faith and family were the cornerstones of his life. He and Joyce were fixtures at not only their children’s events but also those of their grandchildren and even their great-grandchildren, always making the effort to support and celebrate every milestone. Known for his kind heart and generosity, Buffard left a lasting impact on his community, embodying the values of compassion and servanthood throughout his life.
Buffard LJ Wagner’s life was one of purpose and joy. His unwavering support for his family, his commitment to his faith, and his service to his country and community will be forever remembered and deeply missed. He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and kindness that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life at 2:00 PM, Monday, April 29, 2024, at the Mc-Nett Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Glenn Hammack and Pastor Isai Garcia officiating. Burial will follow at the Andrews County West Cemetery, pallbearers will be his grandsons. A visitation will be held from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM Sunday, April 28, 2024, at the McNett Funeral Home Chapel. Arrangements are under the personal care of Mc-Nett Funeral Home.
