Gloria Irene Lira
Gloria Irene Lira, 85, went home to Jesus on August 16, 2024. She was born on April 18, 1939, to Irene and Alfonso Delafuente King in San Diego, Texas.
Gloria was raised in a blended family by her mother Irene, and stepfather Natividad Pena. She had many siblings, and they were all remarkably close. They lived in many cities in Texas following work and finally settling in Andrews, Texas. She met and married her first husband, Luis Pena, and had seven children. Christy, Alice, Viola, Ruben, Rachel, Kirby, and Luis. After being widowed, she met and married Carlos Bueno and had her last child, Belma.
She had many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and was even blessed enough to have met her great-great grandchildren. She lovingly had a hand in helping raise some of these grandbabies and boy do they have stories to tell.
Gloria is preceded in death by one child, Rachel; her mother Irene; stepfather Natividad; father Alfonso; bother Robert; Sister Aida; three grandchildren, Glory, Priscilla, and Shiloh; three great grandchildren, Mercedes, Ryu, and Allie; three great-great grandchildren, Andrew, Persophone, and Haven.
She is survived by her children, Christy Lopez, and husband Julian; Alice Carrera and husband Daniel; Viola Lopez and husband Roman; Ruben Pena and wife Cori; Kirby Pena; Luis Pena and wife Tammy; Belma Muniz and husband Noe; as well as many, many grandchildren.
Gloria was one of a kind. She spoke her mind, lived life how she wanted, and was just unapologetically her. She loved a good family get together which included playing Loteria, telling stories, eating, and drinking her cokes. She loved her family fiercely in her own way and held a special place in her heart for her baby brothers. She was quick to give a compliment when you walked in the room, and she truly meant it. She leaves behind a great legacy and a lifetime of great stories. There is no word for how much she will be missed.
A Funeral Service to celebrate Gloria’s life was held at 1:00PM, Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at the La Nueva Jerusalem Church in Andrews, TX with Saul Flores Jr. officiating.
