Sue Thompson
Sue Thompson, a beacon of love and devotion, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2024, in Midland, TX, at the age of 88. Born on November 25, 1935, in Vernon, TX, Sue’s life was a testament to the power of family, faith, and love.
Sue was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Grant Thompson Jr.; her parents, C. B. and Myrtle Couch; and her brother-in-law, Morris Grimes. Her vibrant legacy continues through her son, Joe Ballard Thompson and his wife Shelley of Stephenville, TX; her daughter, Lisa Neighbors and her husband Danny of Midland, TX; her sisters, Barbara Grimes of Spring, TX, and JoAnn Iles and her husband Buddy of Ft. Worth, TX. Sue’s joy was multiplied by her cherished grandchildren, Jace Thompson (Ben), Cale Thompson (Adrienne), Ryker Thompson (Jasmin), Dr. Lexi White (Tyler), and Cadan Neighbors, her greatgrandchildren Kynslee, Brynlee, Grant, and Cru.
Sue’s pursuit of knowledge led her to obtain an associate’s degree from Odessa College, which served as a foundation for her successful career. She dedicated many years as a secretary to Humble and later retired from the Andrews Independent School District. Her professional life was marked by diligence, warmth, and a willingness to help others.
An embodiment of familial love, Sue centered her life around her children and grandchildren. She was a constant presence at their sports events and activities, no matter the distance, always cheering the loudest and offering unwavering support. Her love extended to the tranquil waters of Lake Granbury where she relished in creating lasting memories with her family.
Sue’s baking was renowned, especially her peanut butter candy and chocolate chip cookies, which were crafted with love and enjoyed by all who had the pleasure of tastingthem.Herculinary delights were a staple at family gatherings and a sweet representation of her nurturing spirit.
A devout fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, Sue’s enthusiasm for her team was infectious, and she found great joy in every game they played. Her love for shopping, particularly for clothes and shoes, was superseded only by her commitment to her faith. As a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church in Andrews for over half a century, Sue’s faith-filled life was an inspiration to many.
Sue’s joy for life extended to her leisure time, where she could often be found engrossed in the heartwarming tales of the Hallmark Channel or solving mysteries alongside her favorite television detectives in “Murder She Wrote” or “NCIS”. These simple pleasures brought her immense happiness and a well-deserved respite from her busy life of service to others.
Sue Thompson’s life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, care, and dedication. Her memory will be cherished and celebrated by all who were fortunate enough to know her. As we bid farewell to this extraordinary woman, Sue’s legacy of love and compassion is her everlasting gift to the world.
A Visitation will be held Friday, November 8, 2024, from 5:00-7:00 PM, at McNett Funeral Home in Andrews, TX. A Graveside service will be held Saturday, November 9, 2024, at 10:00 AM, at the Andrews West Cemetery in Andrews, TX.
Arrangements are entrusted to the personal care of McNett Funeral Home. Donations may be made in honor of Sue to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.s and caregivers at The Sycamore at Park Central in Amarillo for the wonderful care she received for 4 years.
Donations in Rosa’s honor may be made to any of her favorite charities: Heal the City, Amarillo Children’s Home, The Salvation Army, and First Baptist Church Andrews Mission Fund.
The memorial service will be at 10:00 a.m. on November 9th at the Ivy Chapel in Amarillo. The burial service will be in Andrews, Texas, at 3:30 p.m. at Andrews County Cemetery.
