Betty Jane Wooten
Betty Jane Wooten, a cherished matriarch, passed away on November 3, 2024, in Andrews, TX. Born on June 8, 1934, in Seagraves, TX, Betty’s life was a testament to the strength and warmth of her spirit, which touched the lives of all who knew her.
Betty’s journey began as the beloved daughter of Albert and Agnus Nelson, and she grew up surrounded by the love of her siblings. Her life was one of devotion and service, not only to her family but also to her community through her work as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She retired after many years in the medical field, leaving behind a legacy of care and compassion that will be remembered by all her colleagues and those she helped.
Family was the cornerstone of Betty’s world. She is survived by her loving sons, Terry Black and his wife Rena of Andrews, TX, James Wooten and his wife Vanessa of Cibolo, TX, and Ronald Wooten of Odessa, TX. Her daughters, Janice Mitchell of Glenmora, LA, and Lavada McClelland and her husband Coy of LeFlore, OK, will hold her memory dear. Betty’s brother Ronnie Nelson of Jasper, AL, and her sisters Sharon Digby of Arkansas and Shirley Locke of Robert Lee, TX, along with her sisterin- law Marge Nelson of Sudan, TX, also mourn her passing. Betty’s legacy extends through the generations, with countless grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren who will carry her love and lessons forward.
While Betty was reunited with her parents, her first husband Thomas Black, spouse Tom Wooten, her brother Robert “Bob” Nelson, her sisters Yvonne Workman and Shirley Acorn, and her beloved sons Tommy Ray McCombs, Troy Lee Black, and Tony Douglas Black, her presence will continue to resonate with those she left behind.
Betty’s love for her family was unparalleled, and she was the epitome of a true matriarch. Her home was always filled with the aroma of her cooking, and she welcomed everyone with open arms and an open heart. Her respect for others and acceptance of everyone’s unique self left a profound impact on those around her.
Her sense of humor was as distinctive as her caring personality. Betty’s laughter and joy were infectious, and her love for life’s simple pleasures was evident. She relished the thrill of a good find at garage sales and the excitement of the casino, where her playful nature often led her to seek out Rena once her “allowance” was spent.
Betty’s adventurous spirit shone through on family fishing trips, though she was not one to enjoy the heat. Her appreciation for music spanned various genres, and she found relaxation in coloring books and the challenge of word find puzzles. But above all, Betty’s greatest joy was her “babies.” Every child, grandchild, greatgrandchild, and greatgreat- grandchild were a precious part of her world.
Betty’s life will be celebrated and honored by all who were fortunate enough to have been part of her journey. Her light, though no longer present in this world, will forever glow in the hearts of her loved ones.
