Only one of 50 tested at state site is positive

The state’s mobile drive-thru testing site Sept. 16 at the fire station didn’t attract a whole lot of residents but there was one who tested positive, according to a county health department spokesman.

Schools’ virus numbers have been relatively low

School officials understood coming into this unique school year that campuses wouldn’t be completely COVID free.

But through five weeks of school— and a high percentage of students in the classroom—the virus has pretty much been kept in check.

A small percentage of students and staff have contracted COVID since school started Aug. 12, according to Andrews ISD Superintendent Bobby Azam.

Rollover crash southeast of city claims life, the driver arrested

A rollover accident either late Thursday night or early Friday morning southeast of Andrews claimed the life of a passenger, while the driver is facing a felony charge, according to investigators.

Though details of the crash weren’t available at press time, it appeared a vehicle being driven by Shawn Tyler of Andrews left the roadway and rolled about 13 miles south of State Highway 176 on FM 1788. A passenger in the vehicle

Low turnout for state’s testing station could be good sign

The state’s third mobile virus testing site in Andrews—staged Wednesday at the fire station—had less takers than the first two.

That’s perhaps a good sign concerning the virus situation as it stands now in Andrews County and other parts of Texas.

Based on confirmed case numbers over the past few weeks, it appears COVID-19 has quieted some compared to a surge in July and early August.

Candidates have patiently waited since May for school, city elections

They’ve been waiting patiently for quite some time now due to the virus pandemic. But the campaigning is

But the campaigning is surely starting to kick in around five months after the election was scheduled to occur.

The May school and city elections, comprised of a large number of candidates, were canceled because of COVID and rescheduled for the next uniform election—which happened to the November General Election featuring the U.S. President race.

Parade entry fee deadline is Sept. 29

The annual AHS Homecoming festivities are just around the corner!

It’s that time of the year again. The Homecoming Parade will kick things off Thursday, Oct. 1, at 7 p.m. down the regular N. Main St. route.

Parade entry forms are available on the school district’s website or at the high school attendance office. Fees must be paid and the form must be turned in by Sept. 29. Credit/debit cards will be the only payment form accepted.

A city wide pep rally is Friday, Oct. 2, at 3 p.m. at the Mustang Bowl. Designated parent and student seating must be followed.

Two people were injured in a two-vehicle crash the afternoon of Sept. 8 in northwest Andrews, according to police.
