Committee could make CEO recommendation next month

A committee recommendation for Permian Regional Medical Center’s chief executive officer position could be presented for hospital board consideration at its November meeting, hospital officials said this week.

The hospital board recently appointed a nomination committee to vet and review applicants.

Hospital Board President Tom Jones said several applications and resumes have been received during the approved 30-day submission period.

Present interim PRMC CEO Donny Booth is among the candidates for the permanent role.

School district submits high school’s enrollment numbers to UIL reps

UIL REALIGNMENT

The school district on Friday submitted high school enrollment numbers that will be used in the UIL’s upcoming reclassification/realignment efforts.

Though Andrews High’s enrollment was slightly down from the final September count, the number still put the school in position for a possible move to the Class 5A ranks, according to school officials.

The figure submitted to UIL representatives Friday of 1,207 students consisted of the combined numbers at the high school and Andrews Education Center campuses, school officials said.

Council approves CM At Risk for Legacy Park

The city council on Thursday approved a construction manager at-risk for the Legacy Park project that will honor local first responders and provide a historical museum near the chamber office off of W. Broadway.

Pharr & Co. of Lubbock will serve as the project’s CM at-risk, according to Andrews City Manager Steve Eggleston.

The Andrews Mustangs ran just six plays in the first quarter of their district opener against the Big Spring Steers here Friday night at the Mustang Bowl and were still tied 8-8.

For the record, Big Spring ran 21.

Andrews ran basically 15, when time allowed, in the second quarter compared to the Steers 18, and Coach Ralph Mason’s boys still led 21-14. The second half was all Andrews with the Mustangs scoring at will for a 48-14 victory that, for the most part, seemed to be missing something.

A rhythm of any kind for sure.

Williams shines

During his football time as an Andrews Mustangs, Triston Williams threw the ball first, second, third and sometimes even fourth and didn’t ask questions.

That’s the way AHS head coach Ralph Mason runs his offense and Williams brought exactly what Mason was looking for in his signal caller.

Although things didn’t start out as planned his freshman season at Midwestern State University, Williams never changed!

He held on because football was his first love, his second love and his passion.
