Two alcohol petitions to allow sales in Andrews County are being circulated

ALCOHOL PETITIONS

The county on Oct. 2 issued two blank petitions to a group seeking to place two alcohol option elections before county voters.

The Andrews Expansion Council late last month filed a petition with Andrews County Elections Administrator Gracie Mendoza to circulate petitions for alcohol option elections involving the “legal sale of all alcoholic beverages including mixed beverages” and “for beer in wine” in the county.

Woman sustains injuries in two-vehicle accident

HIGHWAY CRASH

A woman was injured in a two-vehicle crash this week on FM 181, according to authorities.

The wreck involved a car being driven by the woman sideswiping a pickup with its passenger side.

The woman sustained cuts to her face, but was not seriously hurt in the accident.

A separate two-vehicle crash the afternoon of Oct. 1 in northwest Andrews resulted in minor damage and no injuries, according to police.

Priority Dispatch system could help save lives here

EMERGENCY DISPATCH

A Priority Dispatch system being considered locally would provide EMS more detailed information before arriving on scene and allow dispatchers to instruct callers on basic methods to help patients prior to first responder arrival.

Andrews County Sheriff Rusty Stewart, who presented the system operation at Tuesday’s commissioners court meeting, said it has the potential to save lives.

Growth brings expansion projects

With student numbers growing by leaps and bounds in recent years, measures have been taken to increase classroom space at several schools.

The school board on Tuesday discussed facility projects related to growth and approved the sale of $6.5 million of the $50 million authorized by a successful 2018 election.

The bond sale approval came from the 2018 bond to fulfill the $15 million total earmarked for facility projects including middle school expansion, an agriculture barn and adding two classroom wings at Clearfork.

Members of Andrews / Gaines Retired School Employees recently met at the Andrews Country Club for their monthly luncheon. Local surgeon at Permian Regional Medical Center, Dr. Margaret Merriam shared current statistics and information about breast cancer: its prevalence, screening options, and the importance of early detection. Assisting her were Jessica Boothe and Megan Neighbors. Each member received a pink PRMC cup filled with promo items in support of October as Breast Cancer Awareness month.

AHS Choir

The Andrews High School Choirs will be presenting their Fall Concert on Monday, October 14th. The concert will begin at 7:00 pm at the AISD Concert Hall and will feature BlackGold, Chorale Women, Chorale Men, and the A Cappella Choir. Come and support the High School Choirs and enjoy an evening of good music. There will be something for everyone. Admission is free.
