Police recover over $215,000 in stolen items at residence

A police investigation this week into a report of stolen copper wire from a vehicle in a local hotel parking lot resulted in officers recovering more than $215,000 worth of stolen items at a southeast Andrews County residence, police said.

Officers arrested three subjects Thursday who were living in two stolen RV trailers at 2230 SE County Road 4001.

STABBING INCIDENT

Those backing gun rights are pointing to a stabbing incident Tuesday night in which two individuals detained the suspect at gunpoint until police arrived as strong support for their cause.

The 7:15 p.m. stabbing of a 36-year-old Andrews woman in the U.S. Post Office parking lot in the 800 block of N. Main St. occurred during a domestic disturbance, according to police.

AHS HOMECOMING

It was a perfect AHS Homecoming night.

The Mustangs tore it up on the field, handing 14th ranked Canyon a 41-22 defeat.

The halftime festivities, meanwhile, included Sarah Bueno and Jesus Lopez being crowned the queen and king, respectively.

It was the culmination of week-long homecoming activities that also included the annual downtown parade Thursday night, dress-up days and pep rallies.

Upon learning she was named queen, Bueno received an embrace from her father, Carlos Bueno, who escorted her onto the field.

With a chip on their shoulder!

On a night when the Andrews Mustangs had to have double digit big plays just to have a chance to compete with the undefeated and bully-like Canyon Eagles – they took it one step farther!

Maybe not triple digits but it sure did seem that way!

Nobody gave the Andrews Mustangs a chance except the Andrews Mustangs!

That was more than enough!

Final score – Andrews – 41, Canyon – 22!

Fillies take out FS on ‘Volley For A Cure’ night in three games

On a night set aside for the bigger things in life – like the fight against cancer – the Andrews Lady Mustangs volleyball team just added to the excitement.

Put their own stamp on the festivities!

While the importance of the night was highlighted before the Andrews and Fort Stockton district match with locals fighting or with some sort of ties to the dreaded disease getting escorted to center-court to get recognized during their annual Volley For A Cure, AHS Coach Britney Hanna’s girls followed that up with a solid 25-22, 25-6, 25-22 straight three-game match sweep.

Church golf benefit set for Oct. 26

The 12th Annual Our Lady of Lourdes Golf Tournament will be held at the Andrews County golf course Saturday, October 26th .

The format for the one-day event is a four-person scramble with an entry fee of $400 per team. Fees include green fees, cart fees, range balls and one entry in the hole-in-one contest plus a meal provided by the Knights of Columbus.

Flight winners will be given pro shop awards and there will be a longest drive, longest putt and closest to the pin contest along with door prizes.
