Tijerina’s 8th ‘A’ boys are district champs

The team aspect of the game football is all about winning district titles.

Doesn’t matter the level – being the best in district says a lot.

The Andrews Mustangs 8 ^th ‘A’ are the best.

Andrews beat Fort Stockton 24-18 in their season finale to win the district title and post a 7-wins and 2-losses overall record.

Andrews runningback Jaesean Debouse scored on runs of 18 and 9 yards plus Rylan Diaz scored on a 39-yard pass play from quarterback Raider Harvey to Rylan Diaz. On defense, Kaden Mendoza recovered a fumble and Debouse had an interception.

Patience is key for Andrews girls early season struggles

Trying to build a program from the bottom up is hard!

Very hard!

Multiply it times 100 when it’s the game of basketball and almost half of your team are freshmen and of the 12 on the varsity team – a double digit are underclassmen.

Then to make things worse – you are taking on a Shallowater team that is a regular at the state finals and a state champion not too many moons ago.

Shooting straight – the Shally girls could play any 6A team in the area and easily still be the cream of the crop.

They’re that good!

Fillies 8th ‘A’ and ‘B’ lose one, win one

The Andrews Lady Mustangs 8 ^th ‘A’ and ‘B’ basketball teams took the same road last week in their first two games of the season. Both the AMS ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams lost to Greenwood but beat Pecos for a 1-1 week.

The Andrews 8 ^th ‘A’ fell to Greenwood 21-15 but beat Pecos 44-28. The Fillies 8 ^th ‘B’ lost to GW 19-16 but took care of Pecos 58-10.

In the 8 ^th ‘A’ loss to GW, Mikylee Morrison and Emmerson Chesshire had 4 each, Alyenna Mejia, Tobi Hinson and Kandace Rivera had 2 each and Taylor Lowder made one free throw.

Warren’s varsity boys open season with solid road win

After struggling through his first year as the Andrews Mustangs head basketball coach – Todd Warren would take any kind of win!

Getting a win over one of the strongest 3A programs west of Abilene would just add to the excitement.

Andrews got their boys’ season off to a good start taking down Brownfield on their home court Tuesday 44-35.

With Andy Reyes scoring 11 and Steven Hernandez pitching in a double digit 10, Andrews outscored the Cubs by a 16-7 margin in the second quarter and 13-10 in the third and the 12 point advantage was more than enough.
