AHS #2 golf girls place 6th

The Andrews Lady Mustangs number two varsity golf team posted rounds of 369 and 340 for a 709 two-day total to end up sixth in the seventeam field at the ECISD Fall Classic in Odessa. Andrews had the only number two team in the field.

Swimmers dominate

There were a total of 24 events in the dual swim meet between Andrews High School and the Abilene ISD Saturday.

Nobody ever said sports was fair!

Competitive sports anyway!

When one team is very good and the other team is very bad, the things that took place at the Andrews Mustangs and Lake View Chiefs district contest Friday night at San Angelo Stadium are to be expected.

Andrews was so much better than the Chiefs that by halftime Coach Ralph Mason’s boys had eight touchdowns and 503 yards of offense.

And so it begins! After clearly being the best team tennis program in the district, the Andrews Mustangs are ready and loaded.

Andrews easily won the 2-4A district title without getting challenged.

Andrews Coach Scott Swyden’s team will start their playoff run Tuesday in Fort Stockton against an El Paso team from 1-4A still to be determined. The bi-district match is set to start at 12:30 p.m.

What the Andrews Lady Mustangs volleyball team had to do in their next to last district match at Fort Stockton Tuesday – they did!

Down one game to Monahans (9-0) in the 2-4A standings going into their big match this weekend, Andrews had to win on the road to keep their hopes alive and they did in dominating fashion taking down Fort Stockton 25-16, 25-21, 25- 16 to improve to 8-1.

What is at stake this weekend is simple – an Andrews win and they end up as co-district champs.

A loss and AHS settles for second place.

Mustangs 9th ‘B’ lose to Greenwood 24 to 18

The Andrews Mustangs freshman 9 th ‘B’ football team suffered a tough 24-18 loss to the Greenwood Rangers Thursday.

Devan Jhagroo opened the scoring for the AHS boys with a 10-yard touchdown run and Michael Lujan found the end zone on a 5-yard scoring run.

Down by six points (18- 12) and Andrews needing a big play, Jayse Rhoudes proved just what the Mustangs needed.

AMS 7th ‘A’ boys beat Big Spring

Just on touchdown runs, Jaesean Debouse accounted for 269 rushing yards to lead the Andrews Mustangs 7th ‘A’ football team to a one-sided 40-0 blanking of the Big Spring Steers. Debouse proved to be way too much for the Steers defense with scoring runs of 98, 28, 85 and 58 yards. Also, Rylan Diaz caught a 45-yard TD pass from QB Raider Harvey and JP Espinosa completed the TD scoring with a 56-yard run. Evan Medina had a conversion on a pass from Harvey and Harvey ran in another conversion for the 40-0 final score.

Defense leads 8th ‘B’ Ponies to 6-0 victory

Defense was the name of the game in the Andrews and Greenwood 8th ‘B’ game Thursday and the Mustangs were just a tad-bit better.

With Coach Raul Rodriguez’ boys keeping the Rangers offense out of the end-zone the entire game, Andrews claimed a tough 6-0 win for their sixth win of the season.

On the Andrews offense, Demitri Hair scored on a 55-yard run for the lone touchdown. Hair ended the game with a game high 80 rushing yards.

AMS 8th ‘A’ boys blank Big Spring

The Andrews Mustangs 8th grade ‘A’ football team had very little trouble keeping their unbeaten season record alive with a lopsided 47-0 win over Big Spring last Thursday.

The twosome of Leeroy Millan and Juan Leos combined to score the first four AMS touchdowns. Millan scored on a 3-yard run and a 42-yard scoring toss from QB Ryan Gafford, while Leos scored on a 13-yard run and an 8-yard TD pass from Gafford. Daylon Jefcoats caught a conversion pass and Kyle Covington kicked a PAT.

For the second week in a roll, the Andrews Mustangs lost yardage on the Harris Rating Weekly ranking after struggling more than what anybody thought they would in their 56-35 district win over the Big Spring Steers.
