The Andrews High School A Cappella Choir, comprised of 99 members, will be performing for the Texas Music Educators Association Convention. TMEA is an organization of over 13,000 school music educators dedicated to promoting excellence in music education. TMEA comprises five divisions: Band, Orchestra, Vocal, Elementary and College. The TMEA Convention was supposed to be held in San Antonio, but decided to pivot to a Virtual Convention due to COVID-19. Each invited performing ensemble will record their performance so they can be viewed during the Virtual Convention. Performing at the TMEA Convention is the highest honor a choir can attain in Texas. There are only 12 choirs that have been invited to perform – 4 middle school choirs, 2 high school tenor-bass choirs, 2 high school treble choirs, 2 high school mixed choirs, and 2 college choirs. Andrews is the only 4A choir performing at this year’s convention. The invitation was received after submitting samples of 2 years of concert recordings. 2021 marks Andrews High School’s second invitation to perform for TMEA. The A Cappella Women’s Choir performed at the 2012 TMEA Convention.
