PRCC wants state to ease up on nursing home visitation rules

The local nursing home has maintained a solid track record concerning virus prevention throughout the course of the pandemic.

Permian Residential Care Center, unlike many similarly-operated nursing homes, has been COVID-19 free. There hasn’t been a single confirmed case at PRCC.

But that sparkling report and the fact PRCC is a rural-area nursing home will result in a longer wait for a virus testing machine provided by the federal government to enable recent state guidelines allowing visitation, Permian Regional Medical Center CEO Donny Booth said earlier this week.

Young cadet with APD fulfilling lifetime dream with police career tragically dies

The police department is mourning the unexpected death of a young Midland man who had recently been hired by the APD and was attending police academy.

Cole Wilson Stanley, 23, died tragically on Aug. 15 in Val Verde County.

“The Andrews Police Department is deeply saddened by the sudden and tragic death of Cole Wilson Stanley,” Andrews Police Chief Ronny McCarver posted Thursday on the APD’s social media site.

Man receives sentence for parole violation

An Andrews man who in May was arrested on a probation violation stemming from an October 2018 incident in which he used a blunt force object to seriously injure another man was recently sentenced in 109th District Court.

During the recent hearing, Jorge Pando Nave, 59, received a 120-day jail sentence on a charge of motion to revoke probation, according to district court records.

Nave was apprehended by deputies in mid-May and charged with the probation violation on an aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury count from 2018.

Apartment project in northwest Andrews qualifies for tax credit

It appears an affordable housing project—a 48-unit apartment complex in northwest Andrews—recently received the green light after qualifying for a federal tax credit incentive, according to city officials.

Andrews City Manager Steve Eggleston informed city council members at the July 23 meeting that the project appeared to be a go.

“Steve advised council the company seeking the housing grant received approval, so another apartment complex will be built,” the meeting minutes state.

Man throws fiery gas bottle at moving vehicle

An Andrews man was arrested Tuesday on a warrant after he allegedly threw a fiery bottle of gasoline at a pickup that earlier passed his SUV on NW Ave. G Monday night, according to police.

Court proposes same tax rate as current year

The commissioners court on Tuesday approved a proposed tax rate “that places constituents’ best interests at the forefront,” according to county officials.
