Many productive oilfield-related businesses and other longtime companies have been adversely impacted by a double whammy involving the novel coronavirus and a subsequent downturn in the oil economy felt extremely hard in April.
The situation forced many longtime companies—such as Kirby and Palmer of Texas—to furlough or lay off employees at that time.
Palmer Tank, which has employed more than 100 in the past, actually closed its operation in April due to the adverse conditions, according to Andrews Economic Development Corporation Director Morse Haynes.
