Ragland enters guilty plea in federal court hearing

The Andrews Middle School choir director arrested in late September for child pornography entered a guilty plea on one of two counts against him during a hearing last week in federal court.

Gary Lynn Ragland, 59, pleaded guilty to a count of attempting to receive child pornography—a felony offense with a sentence range of between five and 20 years in prison, according to court records. The charge also carries a maximum $250,000 fine.

Floor plans for birth place expansion are presented

HOSPITAL PROJECT

Due to a recent baby boom occurring at Permian Regional Medical Center, the hospital board last month asked to look deeper into the prospect of expanding the facility’s family birth place section.

PRMC CEO Donny Booth presented a conceptual design of a potential expansion during the November hospital board meeting.

The next step is generating a cost estimate that could be discussed at the December board meeting, Booth said.

Initial jail demolishing phase pertains to preservation

In one sense, demolition of the old jail facility just north of the chamber grounds already started.

But the initial stage is also a work of preservation in the process, according to city officials. Material from the facility will be incorporated into parts of the Legacy Park that will replace it, and also possibly with the new jail building being constructed in southeast Andrews.
