An Andrews woman who admitted guilt to a burglary of habitation charge from last September was sentenced July 23 in 109th District Court, according to district clerk’s office records.

Jennafer Kelly Wilson received 10 years of probation for the burglary of habitation count from a Sept. 3, 2018, incident, and had a delivery of a controlled substance less than one gram charge dismissed during court action last month.

Driver flees from scene of highway accident

A two-vehicle accident this week at an intersection notorious for serious crashes resulted in major damage but no injuries, according to authorities.

The crash at FM 181 and State Highway 115 involved two pickups and appeared to be caused when the front end of one of the vehicles collided with the back end of the other.

The driver of one of the pickups involved in the wreck apparently fled the scene following the crash.

But law enforcement officers quickly tracked down the pickup and made the driver return to the scene of the accident, according to authorities.

Memory care facility approved at PRMC’s strategic meeting

MEMORY CARE

Providing a memory care facility for dementia and Alzheimer’s patients has been a primary ambition of those with the local hospital for several years.

The reason is because a strong demand exists for those services locally, Permian Regional Medical Center CEO Russell Tippin has said.

The hospital district’s $7.2 million bond proposal for a 24-bed memory care facility was defeated at the polls in November 2016.

Many involved with the annual Andrews Exes Reunion over the weekend took a stroll back in time.

For some, the stroll down memory lane went back a ways. Others didn’t have to stretch their memory banks too far.

But whether it was 10 years or 50 since they walked the halls of Andrews High School, everyone agreed it was good to catch up with classmates and reminisce about past glory days.

The AHS Class of ’69 was the featured 50-year reunion. Class members met at Dan Fisher’s home Friday night for a catered dinner.

Man faces sexual assault charge

An Andrews man was arrested June 23 for sexually assaulting an adult female at a residence in the northeast part of town, according to authorities.

Alexander Sweek Cabrera was apprehended by police for an alleged incident that occurred June 18 and involved a female acquaintance of his, police said.

Cabrera was charged with aggravated sexual assault and also with possession of a controlled substance, according to Andrews Police Chief Ronny McCarver.

County is proactive against possible cyberattacks

An analysis of the county’s information technology systems to detect any weaknesses against potential cyberattacks began this week, according to county officials.

The diagnostic work is being performed by Computer Transition Services, which was approved Monday by the commissioners to enter a work agreement with the county.
