Five local teams win flights in Pro/Am

There were plenty of local golfers in their respective flights in the popular 2020 Andrews Collegiate/Am, but the low combined two rounds in the championship belonged to Stefan Cronje and Blake Roberson.

Among the locals winning their flights were the teams of Steven Acosta and Tony Lara, Danny Mack and Ross Roark, Flip Ortiz and Jorge Molinar Jr., Chachi Rodriguez and Jack Ruiz and Joe Bel Lopez and Pepe Saenz.

AMS 8th ‘B’ shut-out Indians

In a strong performance, the Andrews Mustangs 8 th ‘B’ football team shut-out the Seminole Indians 42-0 on the road Thursday. Demitri Hair accounted

Demitri Hair accounted for four touchdowns including two rushing and two receiving from quarterback Nomar Gomez. Gomez also threw for 65 yards.

Leo Ramos added a rushing touchdown and a two point conversion plus Colten Stewart also scored through the AMS ground attack. Zachary Cabrera and Kevin Villegas added conversion runs for the 42-0 final.

Andrews 7th ‘B’ football boys lose to Indians 28-14 on road

The Andrews Mustangs 7 th ‘B’ suffered a 28-14 defeat to the Seminole Indians Thursday.

After Seminole took a 6-0 lead, Xavier Cruz caught a touchdown pass from QB Auden Morales and Julian Rodriguez-Gutierrez ran in the conversion for an 8-6 score. The Indians added a TD on a Hail-Mary type pass to take a 14-8 lead.

Two more Seminole scores made it 28-8 before Kenneth Serna caught a TD pass from Morales for the 28-14 final. Makai Fernandez led the AMS defensive efforts.

Hester has sixth golf ace

With five holes in one, yes five, some would think golf aces for Tommy Hester of Andrews are not that big a deal.

Think again!

In fact, his sixth, which Hester accomplished Sunday during the Andrews Collegiate Pro/ AM was more special.

Mustangs 8th ‘A’ way too much for Indians

The Andrews Mustangs 8 th ‘A’ football team had an absolute great outing on both sides of the ball Thursday in Seminole taking a 45-0 win over the Indians.

Leeroy Millan scored the first two touchdowns of the game on runs of 13 and 8 and Adolfo Valles caught a 24-yard scoring strike from quarterback Ryan Gafford. After Owen Lagabed found the end zone on a 4-yard run, Abraham Leos had scoring runs of 16 and 7 yards and Daylon Jefcoats kicked two extra points. Jefcoats also scored on a 16-yard run and Kyle Covington was good on the PAT.

AHS vb girls drop battle of state-ranked teams in four

The battle of highly talented high school volleyball teams in Texas, the state-ranked Andrews Lady Mustangs and the Brownfield Lady Cubs, did not turn out well for the girls in ‘Black and Gold,’ but that’s why they play the game.

The match between Coach Britney Hanna’s girls, ranked seventh in Class 4A in Texas and undefeated Brownfield, ranked fifth in 3A, was brutally competitive, but the Lady Cubs came up with crucial points at the most crucial times.

AHS 9th ‘A’ top Seminole 50-21 to stay undefeated

It took the Andrews Mustangs 9 th ‘A’ football team just about two quarters of football to get rolling but once it did -- it was non-stop excitement.

That was more than enough!

After all was said and done, Andrews claim a lopsided 50-21 home win over the Seminole Indians Thursday to remain perfect for the season at 4-wins and nolosses.

Never know with Andrews & Seminole!

A very competitive and tough loss to the 10 state-ranked football team in the state of Texas in the DII, 4A division didn’t do much damage to the Andrews Mustangs!
