Suspect vehicle in high-speed pursuit has two year old in it

A high-speed vehicle pursuit initiated by local police early Wednesday in west Andrews reached speeds of over 100 miles per hour on Highway 385 and ended in Odessa when the suspect vehicle crashed out, according to police.

The driver, 26-year-old Jevon Bell of Odessa, got away after fleeing the accident scene on foot, while officers found a woman and a two-year-old child in the crashed blue pickup, authorities said.

Eggleston earns strong annual review

Andrews City Manager Steve Eggleston on Thursday received an “overwhelmingly positive” annual review by the city council, according to mayor pro-tem Keith Livingston.

The city council met in an executive session to discuss Eggleston’s performance over the past year.

It was the second such evaluation of Eggleston after he took over the city manager position held by former Andrews City Manager Glen Hackler several years ago.

Eggleston received positive reviews both times, according to city officials.

Vehicle search turns up THC gummies well within the reach of three infants

Two Hobbs, New Mexico, women were arrested late Monday after officers discovered substantial amounts of marijuana and THC gummies located in a vehicle within the reach of three infants inside it, according to police.

Officers found some of the marijuana inside the vehicle in a diaper bag.

Bree Nakia Carter, 21, and Maranda Ann Carter, 20, were apprehended and charged with possession of a controlled substance Penalty Group 2 between four and 400 grams, abandon endanger child criminal negligence and possession of marijuana.

Trustees approve technology purchase

The school board last Tuesday approved purchasing computer server infrastructure and a backup appliance that will provide room for growth over the short term.

School officials said the present server has basically reached its life expectancy, so to speak.

Trustees approved a recommendation from central office administration to purchase four Dell VxRail servers and a Dell Data Protection backup appliance at a total cost of just over $83,000.

School trustees on Tuesday approved an interlocal agreement between Andrews ISD and the city for the police department’s use of two former kindergarten facilities for officer training.
