A capital murder case involving the death of a six-week old infant in Andrews from 2015 could potentially go to a jury trial in a couple of weeks, according to district clerk’s office records.

But before that, two hearings are scheduled in 109th District Court regarding longtime cases against Julian C. Cardenas, who, along with Jennifer Elizabeth Muniz, was arrested in October of 2015 and charged with capital murder of a child under 10 years of age and injury to a child.

Committee could make CEO recommendation next month

A committee recommendation for Permian Regional Medical Center’s chief executive officer position could be presented for hospital board consideration at its November meeting, hospital officials said this week.

The hospital board recently appointed a nomination committee to vet and review applicants.

Hospital Board President Tom Jones said several applications and resumes have been received during the approved 30-day submission period.

School district submits high school’s enrollment numbers to UIL reps

UIL REALIGNMENT

The school district on Friday submitted high school enrollment numbers that will be used in the UIL’s upcoming reclassification/realignment efforts.

Though Andrews High’s enrollment was slightly down from the final September count, the number still put the school in position for a possible move to the Class 5A ranks, according to school officials.

The figure submitted to UIL representatives Friday of 1,207 students consisted of the combined numbers at the high school and Andrews Education Center campuses, school officials said.
