AHS softball Fillies set to open playoffs with Clint Thurs. in Pecos

The Andrews Lady Mustangs softball team will start their playoff run against El Paso Clint Thursday, April 29 ^th in Pecos. The bi-district game is set for 6 p.m.

Andrews ended up second in 2-4A after getting upset by Monahans at home in their season finale.

Seminole was crowned the 2-4A champion with a 9-1 mark while AHS posted an 8-2 record.

Clint was third in their 1-4A district.

Andews Middle School swimmers easily win three-team dual meet

Year in, year out -- the success of the Andrews High School swim program comes from their days in the middle school level.

The Andrews Middle School swim program, under high school coach Mike Waldmann, is no joke!

It’s serious business.

So is their success!

The AMS boys and girls’ teams both won a three-team dual meet with Pecos and Big Spring. The girls dominated, taking the top spot by a 103 to 34 margin, while the boys edged out Pecos 63-57 for the title.

McNett and Bustamante pitching lead Ponies to easy win over GW

Tied for first place with just two district games to be played, the last thing AHS head coach Robert Morris wanted was for his baseball Mustangs to come out flat in their annual ‘Senior Night’ here Friday night.

No worries!

Absolutely no worries!

The five-senior led AHS baseball team made sure of that.

Andrews, behind the pitching of Brody McNett and Auden Bustamante plus the hitting of Zeke Rivera and Clayton Chesshire, took care of business with a noncompetitive 10-2 victory over the Greenwood Rangers.

The Andrews Mustang JV hurdler in the Andrews County News April 15 ^th issue was identified by the wrong name. The hurdler was Michael Cuevas – not Michael Lujan.

Cuevas ended up taking first place in the event.

11 AHS swimmers named All-State

A double-digit high total of 11 Andrews Mustangs swimmers earned All-State honors, including the boys 200 free relay foursome of Landyn Brewer, Cash Coats, Javan Tellez and Tucker Walker making the firstteam.

Altogether, seven boys and four girls earned All-State recognition for Coach Mike Waldmann’s program.

Carder Pool comes up short of a state trip by 1 spot after totaling a 148

Andrews High School senior golfer Carder Pool had to feel like being on an island all by himself going into the 1-4A region finals held at the Shadow Hills golf course in Lubbock on Wednesday and Thursday.

Unlike most spring golf seasons, Pool and his AHS teammates usually make it to regions as a squad.

Not this season!

They missed by a tad!

Thus, Pool advanced as a medalist!

A good medalist!

The Andrews High baseball team remained atop the 2-4A standings with a solid 8-4 win over Monahans Tuesday night.

Lady Mustangs’ district title hopes dashed with tough loss to Monahans

The last time Andrews and Monahans squared off in district softball action, Ximena Cordova socked three homers and drove in nine runs to propel the Lady Mustangs to victory.
