AHS claims girls’ track title

The AHS girls track team notched a solid tuneup performance for the upcoming district track meet they’ll host next week by claiming top honors at the Ranger Relays last weekend. Andrews, capitalizing on a strong showing in the sprint events, amassed 147 team points to edge runner-up Midland (139) in what was basically a two-horse race in the team competition.

Mustangs erupt for eight runs in second inning for easy win

It didn’t take long for the Andrews High baseball team to make a statement in a 10-2 non-district victory over El Paso Davinci Friday night at home.

The Mustangs scored eight runs in their half of the second inning to go up 8-1 and cruise to the win.

Andrews needed the one big offensive inning to set the tone and rode the pitching of Brody McNett, Chad Cabrera and E.J. Lopez the rest of the way.

McNett started atop the mound pitched three hitless innings, yielding just one run and striking out two Davinci batters in picking up the victory.

The AHS softball team is on a roll to begin district play.

Andrews scored nine times in the third inning on the way to a 17-7 victory over Greenwood in the district opener Tuesday.

On Friday, the Lady Mustangs trailed Pecos much of the way before scoring five times in the sixth inning for a 5-2 lead. Hanna Wells hit a solo homer for Andrews in the final inning for another insurance run.

The big different against Pecos was the sixth inning. After the Mustangs scored twice to knot the score, Emily Cordova singled in the go-ahead run.

Because of their youth and inexperience, nobody expected the Andrews Mustangs powerlifting team to make much noise at the Regional Meet in Sundown Saturday.

Long ball helps AHS softball Fillies win last two games in round robin

If you are going to split four games, not sure which is the best way to split them, if anything Coach Darren Pool’s girls finished strong while playing the Lubbock and Amarillo round robin.

Streaking Mustangs get two more wins to run record to 10-4-2

The Andrews Mustangs completed tournament play with a 2-wins and 1-tie record at the Snyder Classic to improve their season record to a salty 10-wins, 4-losses, 2-ties.

While the talk that the Andrews Lady Mustangs storied golf program will get challenged when the state finals come around is true, the real talk is truer. A season after their streak was temporarily put on hold by Covid, Coach Ronnie Lester’s girls put on a show Friday and Saturday at the Plum Creek Invitational in Kyle, Texas – site of the state finals.
