Chesshire signs with USW

While college caliber high school athletes are hard to find, try finding one who excels in the sport of their choice and in the classroom.

There are some, but let’s be honest, “It doesn’t take long to call the roll.”

Enter AHS senior Clayton Chesshire!

Clayton, the son of Jennifer and Cody Chesshire of Andrews, signed on the dotted line to continue his baseball career for the University of the Southwest in Hobbs Wednesday amongst friends and teammates.

Carder Pool advances to 1-4A regionals as a medalist

Despite having three players in the top eight in the final district medalist standings, including senior Carder Pool, the Andrews Mustangs Black golf team came up short in their goal to advance to the regional tourney.

The AHS Black team, led by Pool’s 73 and 77 for a 150 total to rank fifth and punch his ticket to regions as a medalist, posted team rounds of 309 and 329 for a 638 two-round total. The 638 was seven strokes behind second-place Seminole and 28 behind Monahans, the district champs.

Wells, Canava go yard to carry AHS Fillies to 10-0 win

Long ball power by seniors Hanna Wells and Hailey Canava was more than enough to lead the Andrews Lady Mustangs to a 10-0 district victory over the winless Pecos Lady Eagles.

With Wells delivering a three-run blast in the second and Canava going yard with a towering two-run knock in the third, Andrews rolled to a run-rule victory as freshman pitcher Jacee Johnson went the distance (five-innings) while allowing no runs and just four hits to get the win on the mound.

Win over Pecos, keeps AHS tied for first

The Andrews Mustangs did just enough to get a 5-4 district win over the Pecos Eagles here Friday night.

Just enough is more than okay at times, especially when it’s against the Pecos Eagles.

Andrews jumped out to a 4-0 lead, only to see Pecos battle back to tie the game 4-4 before a Clayton Chesshire RBI double produced what was the winning run.

On the mound, Clay Manning pitched the first five at bats before giving way to Cody Cabrera.

AHS qualifies both girls golf teams to region tournament

Say what you want, but the goal for the storied Andrews Lady Mustangs golf program has always been double what the other district programs are content with.

Let’s make that clear – two is better than one!

The goal for Coach Rhonnie Lester’s program is to advance two teams to the region tournament.

While it might sound cocky – one team is a given, two is an accomplishment.

Lester’s girls did just that and they did it with ease.

Ramos drives in five runs to lift Mustangs over Greenwood

Jasmin Ramos’ big day at the plate and a five-run seventh inning propelled Andrews to a 12-4 district softball victory over Greenwood Tuesday on the road.
