The defending Tall City Golf Classic champions, the Andrews Lady Mustangs ‘Black’ team, got off to a rough start Friday at Ranchland Hills Country Club in Midland.
The Andrews Mustangs boys’ swim team advanced both the 200 free and 200 medley relay teams to the UIL Swimming and Diving state meet held at Blossom Center in San Antonio Saturday.
Andrews senior Carder Pool posted 18s of 78 and 77 for a 155 two-day total at the Region Preview held at Shadow Hills golf course in Lubbock Friday and Saturday to carry Coach Jeff Williamson’s boys to a fourth-place finish in the 17-team field. Pool’s 155 total tied him for 9th best total to earn him a spot in the top 10.
The twosome of Joslyn Arana and Ashlynn Evans claimed individual gold medals at the 2021 Max Goldsmith Mustang Relays to lead Coach Matt Gafford’s squad to strong second-place showing against an eight-team field of mostly 6A and 5A programs.
The Andrews Lady Mustangs jumped out to an impressive 6-0 lead after two and half innings over Snyder on the road in their season opener before having to score a run in their next at bat to claim a 7-6 victory.
To set the record straight – Andrews High School is not the only swimming program in the state of Texas that competes alongside programs from the 5A division.
