A season after missing out on the Texas High School 4A Cross-Country state title by what many figured was a step or two, the Andrews Mustangs are back!

And maybe even better!

Never mind the 4A preseason state rankings!

It is what it is!

Especially since coach Wade Floyd’s boys missed state by a hair to Decatur and return all five of their top runners from 2018.

Not only that, but Andrews High advanced both the boys’ and girls’ squads to state for the umpteenth time in 2018 and have visions of doing the same thing in 2019.

Distant lightning and brief rainfall were the only things that slowed down the 10 and Under Andrews All-Stars at the Cal Ripken Southwest Regionals in Seminole Thursday.

That was it!

Taking on a Carroll County All-Star team out of Arkansas that made a 15-hour road trip to Seminole, Andrews was simply way too much in what turned out to be a 15-1 run-rule win in four innings.

Andrews scored four runs in the top of the first inning before a single out was recorded and was still batting when play was halted because of lightning.

Excellent individual baseball seasons have a way of getting noticed!

The better the season – the more recognition it receives.

Three Andrews Mustangs, including then junior Christian Nunez and then seniors Vito Prieto and Gustavo Rodriguez, put up numbers that were hard to ignore in 2019 and they keep getting awarded for them.

M&M Suicide Prevention Sand volleyball tourney is Saturday

The M&M Suicide Prevention Project will host a sand volleyball tournament Saturday, July 20 at the Seminole City Park.

Six-person teams will register at 10:30 in the morning on July 20 and play is set to start around 11 a.m. The event is in need of sponsors for expenses which includes tournament T-shirts, food, drinks and gift cards.
