Several long time members of Texas Retired Teachers Association were recently honored at the luncheon of Andrews, Gaines Counties Retired School Employees. Those receiving certificates of appreciation for their dedication and leadership in the organization were Joyce Hamilton, JoAnn Lamb, Fred and Bernetta Nelson, Charlie Russell and Grace Underwood. Part of Andrews County was scheduled for a seal coating project as part of TxDOT’s program to prolong the life of roads.

State Highway 115 from State Highway 176 on the east side of Andrews to east Mustang Dr. is set to receive work, according to a TxDOT press release.

Each year, the Odessa District seal coats select roads as part of the program.

Seal coating provides major benefits such as keeping water from seeping in, and it seals cracks and stops them from spreading.

Fallen heroes to be honored at Memorial Day Ceremony

Andrews is known for its patriotic ways and strong remembrance of fallen U.S. soldiers.

That’s a major reason why area Ride to Remember organizers settled on Andrews as its destination point in recent years.

The Andrews County Veterans Memorial by the chamber office on W. Broadway will once again be the stopping point for hundreds of motorcyclists participating in the event.

AHS GRADUATION

The approximate 240 Andrews High School seniors who said goodbye to the local school system and hello to their futures Friday most definitely left their mark.

The class raked in academic achievements, state titles and an array of other successes.

Their future seems as bright as the hot West Texas sun.

Good things should come of the AHS Class of 2019, school officials said.

On Friday night, it was time to celebrate their prep school careers, which likely seemed to fly by in the blink of an eye.
